Roanoke Victorious in ODAC Action, Defeats Lynchburg 52-42
SALEM – The Roanoke Women's Basketball team picked up their second Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday, 52-42, defeating Lynchburg College.  The Maroons now rise to 2-10, 2-6 in ODAC play, while The Hornets fall to 3-10, 2-6 in conference action.
 
Roanoke outshot Lynchburg from the field 37% to 22%, but the Hornets held the Maroons scoreless from behind the arc.  Both teams missed the mark from the free-throw line, with Lynchburg edging out Roanoke 56% to 52%.  The Maroons also gained the edge in rebounds (48-47) and blocks (9-1).  Nicci Moats finished with a career-high tying five blocks.
 
Roanoke took to the locker room at half with a 25-17 lead.  The Maroons went 11-for-29 in the first stanza, while holding the Hornets to 5-for-27.  Lynchburg stifled the Maroons from behind the arc in the first half, holding them to 0-for-6.  Roanoke also held a slight edge at the half in rebounds (23-21) and steals (7-6).
 
Lynchburg got on the board first in the second half with a basket from the Hornet's leading scorer Shannon Allan.  The Maroons retaliated with a 8-0 run spurred by four points from Taylor Duggins, giving the maroons a 35-19 lead. 
 
With 13:21 to go in the second half, Tatum McKee and Nicci Moats fueled a Roanoke 9-4 run, extending their lead to 17, 45-28.
 
That lead did not hold for long as the Hornets rattled off nine consecutive points, led by a Katie Krump three-pointer and four points form Allan.  Entering the contest, Krump led the Hornets in field goal percentage for the season (48.9).  Roanoke led by 8 with 3:00 minutes to spare.
 
For the next two and half minutes, both teams exchanged points via free throws, with Roanoke still ahead by 10, 52-42, with 30 seconds to play.  That score would hold for the remainder of the contest, and the Maroons picked up their second win in conference play. 
 
Moats finished the game team-highs in points (12) and rebounds (15) earning her third consecutive double-double and her fourth in five games.  Moats' 15 rebounds also now have her averaging a double-double for the season in her seven games of play.
 
Paxton Gwin added 10 points with three steals.
 
Allan led Lynchburg with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Katie Krump also pulled down seven rebounds to go with her seven points.
 
The Maroons return to action on Friday, January 20th as they play host to Hollins in an ODAC matchup.  That game is scheduled to at 7:00 PM
