Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight, Defeats Hollins 66-51
SALEM – The Roanoke Women's Basketball team strung together it's first back-to-back wins of the season with a victory over Hollins in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday night.  The Maroons move to 3-10, 3-6 in ODAC action, while Hollins falls to 5-10, 4-7 ODAC.
 
After tonight's victory, Roanoke has won the last 17 meetings against Hollins, with a 65-2 all-time record. 
 
The Maroons jumped out to an early 11-0 lead, with baskets from Nicci Moats, Rachel Dellahunt and Laurel Hankins.  The run came to an end as the ODAC's leading scorer Jasmine Green (17.6 ppg) put Hollins on the board at the 16-minute mark.
 
With six minutes to play in the first stanza, Roanoke still held a 10-point lead, 21-9.  Then, the Maroons would close out the first half on a 12-6 run that would take the teams to the locker room with Roanoke ahead 33-15.
 
At half, Roanoke was outshooting Hollins 35.7% to 21.9%.  The Maroons also had the edge in rebounds, 30-14.  Moats and Hankins led all Roanoke players after the first 20 minutes netting nine points a piece.   Paxton Gwin led in rebounds with five.
 
Hollins came out and started the second half on fire, going on a 10-4 run, which included a pair of three-pointers by Lauren Morris.
 
With 13-minutes to go in the game, Megan Gadell and Tatum McKee responded with trey's of their own, giving the Maroons a 47-25 lead.
 
At the 9:04 mark, Moats pulled down her tenth rebound of the game, giving her a double-double in her fourth consecutive contest.  After the win against Lynchburg on Tuesday, Moats is now averaging a double-double through the seven games she has played since returning from injury.
 
With 4:00 on the clock, Moats, assisted by Hankins, dropped in a layup that gave the Maroons a 20 point lead, 62-42.  Hollins would finish the game on a 9-4 run, but not enought to cover the deficit.  Roanoke picked up their second straight home win, 66-51.
 
Moats led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Hankins with 13 points.  McKee led the Maroons with three steals, while Rachel Dellahunt dished out a team-high five assists.
 
Lauren Morris and Britney Campbell led in the scoring column for Hollins with 10 points apiece.  Greene pulled down a team-high seven rebounds on the evening.
 
While the Maroons were held scoreless from behind the arc on Tuesday, they drained six of 11 against Hollins.  Roanoke finished the game ahead in total rebounds (55-32), three-point percentage (55% to 30%) and assists (11 to 8).  Hollins forced the Maroons to turn the ball over 23 times to their 12.
 
The Maroons will return to action on Tuesday, January 24th as they travel to Lynchburg to face Randolph College.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
