Women's Basketball falls in ODAC Opener to Eastern Mennonite, 75-55
HARRISONBURG - The Roanoke Women's Basketball fell in their ODAC opener season against Eastern Mennonite University 77-55, on Wednesday.  The Maroons fall to 0-4 (0-1 ODAC) while the Royals are 5-0 (3-0 ODAC).

The Maroons jumped out of the gate early, starting with a six point lead, 8-2after the first two and a half minutes of the game.  Tatum McKee started the run with a big three.  Taylor Duggins followed suit with a jumper and a three-pointer of her own.

Over the course of the next five minutes, the Royals worked the deficit into a lead of as many as eight.  During the EMU rush, more than five different Royals scored.  Spreading the ball around would be a theme for the game as though the first half, no players on either team had entered double figures.

In the last four minutes of the first stanza, the Maroons held and gave up the lead on four different occasions, only to reclaim the lead with one second left off two Kayla Lemke free throws.  Roanoke entered the locker room at half with a 35-33 lead.

The Maroons came out in the second half just like they started the first, taking a seven point lead from a three pointer from McKee and a layup by Paxton Gwin.  However, that would be the biggest lead Roanoke would hold as the Royals went on a 12-5 run to tie the game at 45-45 at the 13:56 mark.  The Maroons would not see the lead for the rest of the game, as EMU controlled the last 14 minutes outscoring Roanoke 30-10.

Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  She also had one steal and one assist to her credit.  Second on the team in both scoring and rebounds was Tatum McKee with 10 and six, respectively. Three Roanoke players led in assists with three each, McKee, Duggins and Rachel Dellahunt.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3rd as they take on ODAC opponent Emory & Henry in the Bast Center.  That game is scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m.
