Maroons Earn ODAC Road Win, Defeat Bridgewater 69-64 on Saturday
BRIDGEWATER -  The Roanoke College women's basketball team re-opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 69-64 victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons are now 2-4 (1-1 ODAC), while the Eagles are now 1-4 (1-1 ODAC).

Tatum McKee led the Maroons with 17 points, just one short of tying a career-high set in 2011 against Hollins.  McKee was 6-11 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line.  She also tied for top rebounder on the squad with eight, as Paxton Gwin pulled down as many boards on the afternoon.  Gwin and Meghan Gadell each tallied 12 points in the contest.

The Eagles' Jessica Mullen led all players with 18 points.  She also finished the contest with four assists and four steals.  Katelynn Hottinger put together a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocks.  Shannan Thorne also acquired a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Roanoke jumped out to an early lead in the first half, and built the advantage to at most 14, 25-11 with 5:16 to play in the period.  Bridgewater closed out the half with a 15-6 run, which sent both teams to the locker room with Roanoke ahead 31-26.

The Eagles tied the game up at 31-31 just a minute in to the game.  Roanoke responded by scoring eight straight points, which included trey's from Rachel Dellehunt and McKee, and a layup from Laurel Hankins.  But the Eagles stayed on the heels of the Maroons, tying the game back at 41-41 with 14:48 to play.  The eagles were able to take the lead, and held the lead for most of the second half, going up by as many as five, 57-52, with 4:57 to play.  With 1:09 on the clock, Gwin hit a layup to put Roanoke up one, 65-64.  Free throws by McKee and Dellehunt down the stretch secured the conference win for the Maroons with a final score of 69-64.

The Eagles outshot the Maroons 41.7 to 36.5 percent from the field, while the Maroons held the edge from behind the arc 40.0 to 28.6 percent.  Bridgewater also led in rebounding (43-37), assists (16-14) and blocks (7-1).  Roanoke did lead in steals, 11-9.

The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, December 4th as they travel to Ferrum for non-conference action.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
