Maroons Stung by Hornets in Bast Center, 68-55 in ODAC Contest
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's basketball team ran into a tough second half against Lynchburg College on Wednesday, falling 68-55 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.  The Maroons are now 5-9, 1-4 ODAC, while the Hornets are 9-4 and 4-1 in ODAC play.

Through the first 10 minutes of the first half, Lynchburg built a seven-point lead over the Maroons, 16-9.  However, Roanoke started to quickly cut in to that lead, once Megan Gadell knocked down a trey, and by the six minute mark, Paxton Gwin went on a seven point run that tied the game for Roanoke, 22-20.  Lynchburg continued to pull away from the Maroons but Roanoke would answer immediately, forcing a 35-35 tie entering the locker room after the first period.

At halftime, Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with 11 points to go with four rebounds.  Tatum McKee was the top rebounder for the squad, pulling down five.  Lynchburg's top scorer was Shannon Allen with 12 points and four rebounds.

The Hornets entered the second half hot, going on a 17-4 run in the first eight minutes of the period to take a 52-39 lead.  This was a deficit that the Maroons would have a hard time shaking, as the Hornets went up by as many as 15 in the half.  Roanoke pulled within 10 on three different occasions in the final five minutes, the last being a layup by Gwin with 55 seconds to play.  Lynchburg's Katie Reeves knocked down a trey in the final seconds for Lynchburg to defeat Roanoke 68-55 in the Bast Center.

Gwin led the Maroons with 18 points, and was followed by Mckee with 15 points, narrowly missing a double-double with nine rebounds.  Mckee also led all players in the contest with five assists.

The Hornets' leading scorer was Allen with 21 points.  Two other Lynchburg players finished in double-digits as Katie Reeves finished with 18, while Sammi Goldsmith tallied 11.  Lauren Penley and Caleigh Patterson led the squad with seven rebounds each.

Lynchburg outshot Roanoke from the field, 40.3 to 34.4 percent.  The Hornets also held the advantage in rebounds, 43-40, while the Maroons led in assists 14-12.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 12 as they travel to Virginia Beach to face off against Virginia Wesleyan.  The tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM for the contest.
