Maroons Win Second Straight ODAC Contest, Defeat Randolph 93-67
LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College women's basketball team picked up its second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference win on Saturday, defeating Randolph College 93-67.  The Maroons now have a record of 7-10, 3-5 ODAC, while the WildCats are now 3-12 and 1-7 in ODAC play.
 
Laurel Hankins led the Maroons in scoring with a career-high 26 points, shooting 10-15 from the field.  She was also 3-5 from behind the arc.  Freshman Kelsey Smith followed with 16 points, one point shy of tying a career-high.  Paxton Gwin also scored in double-digits with 10 points.  Rachel Dellehunt dished out a six assists in the win.
 
Roanoke jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after baskets from Dellehunt and Tatum McKee.  The WildCats started to make a comeback, but Roanoke was able to hold them off as McKee hit free throws at 15:26 to start a 10-2 run that would put Roanoke ahead 21-12.  By the 8:11 mark, the Maroons were able to build their lead to 12, as Hankins knocked down a free throw to go up, 29-17.  Kelsey Smith knocked down a trey at 4:16 to give Roanoke its largest lead of the half of 16, 41-25.  The WildCats finished the half on a 11-4 run, but Paxton Gwin hit a layup in the final moments of the game, allowing the Maroons to enter the locker room at half, with a nine point lead 45-36.
 
In the first five minutes of the second half the Maroons went on a 21-6 run, which included 10 points from Hankins.  Hankins scored 19 of her 26 points in the second half alone.  By the 14:50 mark, Roanoke had built a lead of 24, 66-42.  The Maroons were able to hold that lead throughout the remainder of the contest, defeating the WildCats of Randolph, 93-67.
 
Jenson Hoover was the top scorer for Randolph College, putting away 17 points in the effort.  She also tied Megan Russel for the lead in rebounds with seven.  Chelsea Tyler led all players in the game in assists with seven, followed by Emilee Dunton with six.
 
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, January 22nd, as they travel to Lexington to take on Washington & Lee.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
