Maroons Fall at Home to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Eastern Mennonite, 74-46 on Saturday.  The Maroons now hold a record of 8-11, 4-6 in ODAC play, while the Royals are 13-6, 9-2 in the ODAC.
 
Paxton Gwin led the team in scoring and rebounds with her third double-double in four games.  She finished the contest with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  She was followed in scoring by Laurel Hankins and Kelsey Smith, each tallying seven points.
 
Eastern Mennonite took the first six minutes of the contest to build a 10-0 lead over Roanoke.  Hankins broke the scoring run of the Royals, by dropping in a layup at 13:29.  Both teams traded baskets through the next six minutes, as Eastern Mennonite held their 14-point lead through the 7:12 mark.  Gwin scored four consecutive points to bring Roanoke within 10, 22-12 at 4:34.  The Royals built their lead back to 14, but a trey from Gwin in the final moments of the half pulled the Maroons within 11, 30-19 as the teams entered the locker room.
 
Roanoke outscored Eastern Mennonite 12-6 to open up the second half, which included seven points from Kelsey Smith.  The early run pulled Roanoke within five, 36-31 with 17:00 to play in the contest.  Rachel Dellehunt put in two layups in the 13th minute to help the Maroons stay within six points through the 13:02 mark.  However, over the next seven minutes, the Royals rallied for a 19-0 run, taking a 25-point, 62-37 lead with 6:30 on the clock. 
 
Paxton Gwin and Laurel Hankins combined for five points over the Maroons two next baskets, but the Royals were able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the contest.  Eastern Mennonite defeated Roanoke 74-46 in the Bast Center on Saturday.
 
The Royals were led by Jess Rheinheimer, who finished with 17 points.  She was one of three players with six rebounds, along with Keyla Baltimore and Shakeerah Sykes.  Raiven Patterson put up 13 points on the afternoon.
 
Eastern Mennonite outshot Roanoke 48-29 percent from the field, while also holding the edge from the free throw line, 70-64 percent.  The Royals also led in rebounds, 47-37.
 
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, January 29th as they play host to Guilford in the Bast Center.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
