Women's Basketball Falls to Lynchburg, 61-55 on Tuesday
LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell in Old Dominion Conference Action to Lynchburg College, 61-55 on Tuesday night.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-13, 5-8 in ODAC play, while the Hornets are 13-8, 8-5 in the ODAC.
 
Paxton Gwin led the Maroons in scoring with 19 points to go along with five rebounds.  She was followed in scoring by Kelsey Smith who tallied 14 points, shooting 4-6 from behind the arc.  Tatum McKee topped the team in rebounds with nine.  She also had seven points and three assists.
 
Roanoke jumped on the board first as Rachel Dellehunt dropped in a layup to put the Maroons up 2-0.  At the 14:37 mark, McKee hit a layup to give Roanoke it's biggest lead of four to that point, going up 11-7.  Just two minutes later, Lynchburg's Shannon Allan knocked down a three to tie the game at 12-12.  Over the next six minutes, Lynchburg built a lead of six points, but Roanoke started to battle back.  Starting at 6:44, McKee and Gwin hit back to back three-pointers to tie the game at 20-20.  Gwin went on to score seven more consecutive points for Roanoke, building a seven point lead. By the end of the first half, Roanoke led by eight points, 30-22
 
McKee opened the second half with a layup to put Roanoke ahead by 10, 32-22.  Over the next six minutes, the Hornets went on a 12-0 run to take a two point advantage over the Maroons, 34-32.  By the 3:21 mark, Lynchburg had built its largest lead of the game of 14, 56-42.  The Maroons began to close the gap as Gwin hit a trey, followed by two three-pointers from Kelsey Smith, closing the deficit to five, 58-53 with 16 seconds to play.  Roanoke only scored two more points on Dellehunt free throws, but fell 61-55 in the ODAC contest.
 
Shannon Allen led the Hornets in scoring with 15 points along with a team high nine rebounds.  Katie Reeves followed Allan with 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
Lynchburg led Roanoke in shooting, 35.3 to 31.1 percent from the field, while the Maroons held the advantage from behind the arc, 33.3 to 28.7 percent.  The Hornets outrebounded the Maroons 55-35.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 9th as they play host to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.  The event will also serve as Roanoke College basketball Alumni Day.  For more information on the event, Click Here.
