Women's Basketball Picks Up Road Win With 67-64 Victory Over Hollins
ROANOKE – The Roanoke College women's basketball team picked up an ODAC road win on Wednesday, defeating Hollins University 67-64.  The Maroons now have a record of 10-14, 6-9 in ODAC play, while Hollins is 9-15, 4-11 in the ODAC.

Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with 22 points, shooting 7-15 from the field.  Gwin was followed in scoring by Rachel Dellehunt who netted 14 points, including a 8-9 mark from the free throw line.  Gwin and Dellehunt tied for a team high seven rebounds each on the evening.  Also in double-figures was Kelsey Smith who finished with 10 points.

Hollins went on the offensive early, as Jasmine Greene scored the first seven points for the squad, putting Hollins ahead 7-2 at the 16:47 mark.  The Maroons were held at bay for most of the first half, going down as many as eight points (17-9) with 13:24 to play.  However, the Maroons started to fight back, as a basket by Smith, and six points from Markia Beckwith tied the game up for the first time since the game began.  Hollins reclaimed the lead, but Roanoke struck again at 5:37 as a Dellehunt layup tied the game again at 24-24.  Hollins took the lead one more time, but Hannah Ward knocked down a trey at 3:27 to give Roanoke its first lead of the game, 27-26.  The Maroons held the lead up to the final minute of the half, when Mackenzie Miller hit a three pointer and Greene knocked down a free throw to put Hollins ahead 32-29 at halftime.

Hollins opened the second half as they did in the first, taking a quick lead, going up by as many as five points.  With 17:32 on the clock, Tatum McKee hit a three pointer to give Roanoke a 37-36 lead, which was secured by a pair of Gwin free throws.  Three minutes later Hollins tied the game again, but Gwin went on to score seven of Roanoke's next nine points to put Roanoke up by 7, 48-41.  Hollins began to work down their deficit, and tied the game again at 52-52 with 6:40 to play.  Roanoke was only able to hold on to its lead for the next three minutes until 3:41 when Green hit a jumper to go up 57-56.  Hollins went up by four points, 64-60 with just 16 seconds to play.

The Maroons came firing back in that short time span as Kelsey Smith knocked down a huge three pointer, to pull within one, with 14 seconds on the clock.  After a pair of missed Hollins free throws, Dellehunt hit a pair of free throws to give Roanoke the 65-64 lead, which was then bolstered by two Kelsey Smith free throws, as Roanoke won the ODAC match, 67-64.

The ODAC's leading scorer, Jasmine Greene finished the game with 27 points and eight rebounds, along with five assists.  Also in double-figures for Hollins were Forrest Lacie and Chanci Wright who scored 13 and 10 points respectively.  Lauren Hays tied Greene in rebounds for a team high eight boards.

Hollins outshot Roanoke from the field, 39.2 to 32.7 percent, while the Maroons held the advantage on the free throw line 82.8 to 62.5 percent.  Roanoke also took the edge in rebounding 39-38.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 16 as they play host to Bridgewater College for the final game of the regular season.  The contest will also serve as senior day for two members of the Roanoke College women's basketball team: Rachel Dellehunt and Hannah Davidson.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
