Roanoke Battle To Last Second, Fall to Bridgewater 69-67
SALEM – The Roanoke Women's basketball team played Bridgewater College to the wire on Saturday, but Fell 69-67 in final game of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season.  The Maroons enter tournament play with a record of 10-15, 6-10 in the ODAC, while the Eagles finish with a record of 14-10, 11-5.
 
Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with a career-high 31 points, shooting 9-12 from the field, 3-3 from behind the arc, and an incredible 10-10 from the free throw line.  She also finished the game with six rebounds and one block.
 
Tatum McKee finished the contest with 10 points and seven rebounds.  The night also served as Senior Night for two of the Maroons, Rachel Dellehunt and Hannah Davidson.  Dellehunt finished the night with two points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Davidson has been serving as a student assistant with the team since the 2011-12 season, and played for Coach Susan Dunagan from 2009-11.
 
The Eagles jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in the Bast Center, as Jessica Mullen and Holly Mogran put up seven and six points respectively.   The Maroons returned with a 13-5 run of their own, as five different Maroons scored to give Roanoke the 19-18 lead with 9:41 left to play.  The Eagles reclaimed the lead and went up by as many as 10, 31-21 at the 2:49 mark.  Paxton Gwin scored five points in the final minutes of the half to bring the Maroons back within seven, 33-26 to enter the locker room.
 
In the second half, Bridgewater extended their lead to as many as 13, 60-47 with 7:35 on the clock.  At this point, Roanoke kicked the game in to high gear.  Roanoke started a 16-3 run, as the Maroons tied the game at 63-63 with 3:00 to play.  Gwin scored the final four points for the Maroons, tying the game at 67-67 with 44 seconds to play.  Bridgewater's Molly Shelley hit a jump shot in the final 10 seconds, putting the Eagles up by two, which held for the final score of the game, 69-67 in the regular season finale.
 
Bridgewater's Holly Morgan led the team with 20 points, shooting 6-9 from behind the arc.  She was followed in scoring by Katelynn Hottinger who tallied 12 points along with nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
 
The Maroons outshot the Eagles 44.4 to 40.6 percent from the field, and had perfect 15-15 mark from the free throw line.  Bridgewater outrebounded Roanoke 39-28 and made more blocks (5-2) on the afternoon.
 
The Maroons will return to action on Monday night as they host and opening round game of the ODAC Tournament in the Bast Center.  The opponent is still yet to be determined, but should be announced Saturday night or Sunday morning at http://www.odaconline.com.
