Maroons Drop ODAC Tournament Opener, 72-64 to Randolph-Macon on Monday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell in the opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament, 72-64 to Randolph-Macon College on Monday night.  The Maroons finish the 2012-13 season with a record of 10-16, 6-10 ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets advance to the ODAC Quarterfinals with a record of 5-21, 4-12 ODAC.

Head Coach Susan Dunagan finishes her 32nd season at the helm of the Maroons with 598 career wins, still ranking as one of the top-10 winningest NCAA Division III coaches of all-time.  The Maroons entered the Roanoke record books of ranking seventh all-time in free throw shooting, hitting 69.3 percent of their attempts from the line.  Roanoke's women also put up the fifth most points in school history in a single game, defeating Randolph-Macon earlier in the season 100-82.

Markia Beckwith led the Maroons with a career-high 14 points, shooting 6-9 from the field.  She also finished with three rebounds and one steal.  She was followed in scoring by Tatum Mckee, who netted 13 points, with a team high five assists and one steal.  ODAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Paxton Gwin, finished the contest with 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds and two steals.

Tatum McKee free throws and a three-pointer from Smith, gave Roanoke a lead of one to open up the second half.  The two teams traded the lead back and forth over the first eight minutes of the period, with the Maroons taking a three point lead at 11:54.  The Yellow Jackets went on a 6-0 run, to go ahead by three, 53-50 at 9:40 in the half.  Randolph-Macon built the lead to seven over the next two minutes, but Roanoke was not out of the contest.  With 4:16 to play, Roanoke tied the game at 62-62 on a pair of Gwin free throws.  The Yellow Jackets went back up by six with 43 seconds to play in the contest, and hit two more free throws to seal the game at 72-64 in the ODAC Tournament Opening Round.

Sarah Parsons led the Yellow Jackets in scoring, putting up 27 points, shooting 9-13 from the field, and 4-6 from behind the arc.  Katie Anderson followed with 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Parsons and Anderson each had five steals, aiding in Roanoke's 22 turnovers.
