Maroons Drop Non-Conference Game Against York (Pa.), 57-34 on Saturday
GREENSBORO, NC – The Roanoke College women's basketball team (0-2) dropped a non-conference game to York (Pa.) (2-0) 57-34 in the first game of the Daly Sevens Hotels Classic, hosted by Guilford College.
 
Roanoke pulled within three in the first five minutes of the game, but York hit a hot streak and went on a 26-5 run over the next 15 minutes to end the half ahead 37-13.
 
Roanoke won the second half battle, outscoring York 21-20.  The Maroons actually trailed 51-19 with 8:25 to play, but proceded to go on a 15-6 run over the final eight minutes to finish the game with a score of 57-34.  Paxton Gwin put up seven points and pulled down six rebounds in the period.  Freshman Kailey Sitzberger finished the half with five points. 
 
York held the edge in shooting free throws, 75 to 70 percent, and also a slight advantage in rebounds 56-49.  The Maroons caused the Spartans to turn the ball over 24 times while only turning the ball over 18 times.
 
Paxton Gwin led the team with 13 points, followed by Kailey Sitzberger with five.  Gwin and Tatum McKee led the Maroons with seven rebounds each, while Rachel Dellehunt finished with six.
 
Brittany Hicks led York with 15 points, followed by Kristen Haley and Kelsey Murphy with 13 and 10 points, respectively.  Hicks and Haley completed double-doubles on the evening by also pulling down 13 rebounds each.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, November 18th as they face off against North Carolina Wesleyan at 1:00 PM in the Daly Sevens Hotels Classic.
