Women's Basketball Stopped by Royals, 77-53 in ODAC Action on Saturday
HARRISONBURG – The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell to Eastern Mennonite University on the road in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action, 77-53 on Saturday.
 
Roanoke (2-6; 1-2 ODAC) was led by Laurel Hankins who tallied 16 points on the night, hitting 3-5 from behind the arc.  She was followed by Paxton Gwin with eight and Markia Beckwith with seven.  Hankins also led the squad in rebounds, pulling down four.  Rachel Dellahunt dished out a team high four assists on the afternoon. 
 
Eastern Mennonite (4-3; 2-1 ODAC) had three players in double-digits on the afternoon.  Alisa Brown and Jess Rheinhimer each posted 15 points, while Steph Rheinhimer tallied 13.  Raven Patterson led all players in the contest with six rebounds, while three other Royals finished with five boards.  Kayla Baltimore topped the squad with four assists.
 
The Royals jumped out to an early 7-2 lead with 17:13 to play in the first half, but the Maroons turned it around and went on a 9-0 run of their own, capped by a three pointer by Hankins.  Roanoke's last lead of the half was at the 10:35 mark, when Gwin hit a trey to put the Maroons up 14-12.  The Royals followed with a 15-3 run of their own to take a seven point lead, 27-20 with 5:02 to play in the first half.  By the end of the half, Eastern Mennonite had built a lead of 12, 37-25.
 
The Royals opened the second half in the same manner as the first with a 7-2 run, taking a 44-27 lead just three minutes into the half. The Maroons were unable to cut into the lead built by Eastern Mennonite, trailing 63-37 with 10:00 to play in the contest.  Over the final 10 minutes, Roanoke outscored the Royals 16-14, but in the end, fell 77-53 in ODAC play.
 
The Royals outshot the Maroons 47.7 to 32.1 percent from the field, but Roanoke held the edge on the free throw line, 72.2 to 61.5 percent.  Eastern Mennonite pulled down 48 rebounds to Roanoke's 24, while both teams tied in steals with 12 each.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, December 15th as they travel to Stevenson, MD to take on Stevenson University.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
