Women's Basketball Falls to Guilford on Wednesday Night
GREENSBORO - The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action to Guilford College, 67-44 on Wednesday. The Maroons enter their final game of the regular season with a record of 11-12, 7-8 in ODAC play, while the Quakers sit with a mark of 18-6, 10-5 in the conference.

Paxton Gwin led the Maroons in scoring on the evening, scoring 12 points in the effort. She also tallied two rebounds and an assist on the night. Kelsey Smith was the second highest scorer of the night, putting up nine points off 4-for-8 shooting. Tatum Mckee led the Maroons in rebounds with four, followed by Laurel Hankins and Hannah Ward with four rebounds to their credit.

The Maroons played a tough first half against the Quakers, staying with Guilford every step of the way. Gwin made Roanoke's first three baskets of the night, as the Maroons took a 6-5 lead at the 16:40 mark in the first half. Kelsey Smith added a jumper, while Laurel Hankins hit a three pointer as Roanoke took a six point, 11-5 lead, just five and a half minutes into the contest. Over the course of the next three minutes, Guilford went on a 6-0 run with baskets by Weatherly, Oglesby and Hardin, tying the game at 11-11. Gwin and Bridget Holleran pushed Roanoke's lead out to four points, but Heaven Walters hit a three pointer at 8:49 to give the Quakers a one point, 16-15 lead.

Gwin tied the game back up at 18-18 with a three pointer, while Hankins gave Roanoke a two-point lead at 5:28. Roanoke held a our point, 27-23 advantage after a pair of Gwin free throws, but Guilford closed out the half with a 6-0 run, taking a two-point, 29-27 into half time.

The Maroons ran into a tough Guilford team in the second half. After Kelsey Smith hit a three-pointer, pulling the Maroons within three, 33-30, Guilford went on a 10-0 run that ran through the 11-minute mark of the half. Mckee, Smith and Hankins all made baskets over the next two minutes, but the Maroons trailed the Quakers 50-38 after a Hankins jump shot at 8:25.

Over the next six minutes, the Quakers held Roanoke to just four points in a 16-4 run that saw Guilford lead 66-42 with 2:25 to play. Cary Beahm scored the final four points for the Maroons, as Roanoke fell to Guilford, 67-44 on the road.

The Quakers were led in scoring by Anais Weatherly, who scored 20 points off the bench. She shot 9-for-14 from the floor, as well as tallying four of the team's 12 steals on the night. Jennette Taylor scored nine points, while Gabby Oglesby finished with eight points and a game high 12 rebounds.

Guilford had a 40.9 percent mark from the floor as compared to Roanoke's 35.3 on the night. The Quakers also led in rebounds 47-28. Roanoke dished out five assists, and had 14 points in the paint on the evening.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, February 21st as they host Shenandoah University on Senior Night. The contest will begin at 7:00 PM, and will feature a pregame presentation to Roanoke's two seniors, Paxton Gwin and Laurel Hankins.
