Gwin Named ODAC Player of the Year, Seniors Earn All-ODAC Honors
FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke College guard Paxton Gwin headlines the 2014 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Teams as the Maroons' standout was tabbed ODAC Player of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches. Eastern Mennonite University mentor Kevin Griffin was named the ODAC Coach of the Year, while Bridgewater College forward Heather Cantrell earned ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades. Emory & Henry guard Kristie Langley collected the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor, in a vote of the conference's sports information directors.

Gwin, a senior from Buxton, N.C., is a two-time All-ODAC First Team selection. Gwin is the first Roanoke women's basketball player to be named ODAC Player of the Year since Erin Hanson won the honor in 2007. She is first in the conference with 171 field goals made and second in the league in scoring with 18.6 points per game. Gwin has scored in double figures in all 25 games played this year and has notched five double-doubles. She is also grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 81.1% from the charity stripe (sixth in the ODAC). Gwin scored 20 or more points 10 times, including a season-best 28 against Randolph-Macon in January.

Over her career, Gwin has scored 1,337 points, including a 464 this season. She ranks sixth all-time in scoring at Roanoke College, 46 points out of fifth place. She ranks in the top-10 all-time in nine different statistical categories including field goals made (514 - 5th), field goals attempted (1107 - 5th), three-pointers made (109 - 8th) and scoring average (13.0 - 9th). In the 2013-14 season, she ranks in the top-10 in three single-season cagetgories including: scoring average (18.6 - 4th), points (464 - 7th) and free throw percentage (81.1 - 9th). For her performance this season, Gwin was a two time ODAC Player of the Week in 2013-14.

Laurel Hankins earns her first All-ODAC nod, being named to the 2013-14 All-ODAC Third Team. Hankins currently sits with 308 points this season, her highest scoring mark for a single season over the past four years. She also has 47 assists, 107 rebounds, and 20 steals. She ranks fifth in the ODAC in three-pointers made, hitting 47 shots from behind the arc. She also ranks ninth in the conference in free throw percentage, hitting 76.4 percent from the charity stripe. Over her four year career, Hankins ranks in the top-10 all-time in four different statistical categories, including: three-pointers made (134 - 6th), three-pointers attempted (412 - 6th), three-point percentage (32.5 - 6th), and free throw percentage (75.8 - 7th). Hankins has scored 840 career points with an average of 8.2 points per game.

Gwin, Hankins and the Roanoke College women's basketball team will be back in action on Thursday, February 27th. The Maroons will take on Lynchburg College in the Quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament. That game is scheduled for an 8:00 PM start.
