Maroons Drop ODAC Contest to Washington & Lee on Wednesday
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's basketball team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest to Washington & Lee on Wednesday, 63-49. The Maroons now have a record of 4-7, 1-2 in ODAC play, while the Generals are now 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC.

Cary Beahm led the team in scoring for the third consecutive game, netting 20 points, a mark she has hit three times this season. Beahm has tallied 168 points so far this season, averaging 15.3 points per game, which ranks sixth among all players in the ODAC. Tatum McKee put up the second most points on the squad, tallying nine points off 3-6 shooting. McKee hit all of her baskets from behind the arc in the first half, while pulling down five rebounds. Beahm led the team in rebounds, finishing with nine, one short of a double-double. Meghan Gadell notched eight points, while Markia Beckwith finished with six.

Roanoke jumped out to an early 8-4 lead over the Generals, spurred by two Cary Beahm layups. Meghan Gadell hit a free throw at 15:46 to put the Maroons ahead by three points, 9-6. Over the next four minutes, Washington and Lee went on a 9-0 run, including seven points from Alena Hamrick. A few minutes, later the Generals widened the gap as Andrea Ferrero hit back to back three pointers to go ahead by 10, 23-13 with 7:22 to play. Roanoke went on the offensive as Tatum Mckee hit three three-pointers, pulling the Maroons back within three points, 27-24 with three minutes left in the half. Cary Beahm added a pair of free throws to get the Maroons within one point, 27-26. The Generals closed the half with six consecutive points to take a seven point, 33-26 lead into the locker room.

The Generals opened the half with five points from Jackie Clifford, extending the W&L lead to 12 points. Roanoke got back within 10 points with 14:16 on the clock, as Ellen Wagner hit a jumper. After a scoreless three minutes from each team, Samantha Sharman knocked down a jumper to build the lead back to 12 points. Starting at 8:53, Roanoke hit an unanswered seven points off of free throws, including six from Beahm to cut the deficit to five points, 48-43. However, W&L's Corvino hit two three pointers down the stretch, growing the lead to 11 points, 56-45, a lead that would hold through the remainder of the contest. As the final buzzer sounded, Roanoke fell 63-49 on Wednesday.

Washington & Lee's Paige Corvino led the Generals in scoring, netting 13 points, shooting 4-9 from the field. She was followed by Alena Hamrick with nine points and Emma Redding with eight. Corvino led all players with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Washington and Lee held the shooting advantage 41.0 to 31.2 percent from the field, and narrowly a lead in three-point percentage, 27.3 to 25.0 percent. The Maroons led in rebounds, 38-37, but also led in turnovers 21-15.

The Maroons return to action on January 10th as they take on Randolph-Macon in the Bast Center. The Saturday contest will take place at 2:00 PM.
