Women Topped by Randolph-Macon, 74-61 on Saturday
SALEM - On Saturday afternoon, the Roanoke College women's basketball team ran into Randolph-Macon College, who was hot from behind the arc, taking a home loss 75-61 in the Bast Center. The Maroons now have a record of 4-8, 1-3 in ODAC play, while the Yellow Jackets are 10-2, 3-1 in the ODAC.

Cary Beahm and Markia Beckwith both put up team high totals of 16 points in the loss on Saturday. Beahm shot 6-11 from the field, pulling down seven rebounds. Beckwith finished with four rebounds and one steal, hitting 8-10 from the free throw line. Having a big game for the Maroons was Anna Carter, who tallied a career-high tying 12 points, as well as a career high 10 rebounds in a double-double effort on the afternoon. She also finished with two assists and one steal. Tatum McKee led all players in assists with five.

Roanoke put Randolph-Macon on the ropes early, going on a 10-2 run in the first five minutes of the contest. Meghan Gadell led the squad during the rally, netting four points. The run was capped by a jumper by Carter with 15:55 on the clock. Randolph-Macon started to make a comeback as Hannah Livermon knocked down a pair of three-pointers over the next minute, cutting the deficit to four. Khajae Hester hit a pair of free throws to get within two with 14:14 to play in the first. The Yellow Jackets nailed four three-pointers over the next seven minutes, but Roanoke took advantage of free throw opportunities to keep Randolph-Macon at bay. Beckwith hit a pair of free throws to put Roanoke up by four, 28-24 with 6:52 in the half. The Yellow Jackets closed the first half on a 9-4 run, including five points from Sarah Parsons, as the Maroons trailed by one, 33-32 at half.

The Maroons had a tough time finding the basket in first 10 minutes of the second half, as the Yellow Jackets went on a 22-5 run through the 10 minute mark. All five of Roanoke's points came from Beckwith, while the yellow Jackets hit another three treys during the streak.

The Maroons weren't out of the contest just yet, as Roanoke turned the tides on Randolph-Macon over the next seven minutes. Roanoke went on a 17-6 run through the 3:36 mark, which included eight points from Beahm and four each from Anna Carter and Ellen Wagner. Also during that span, the Maroons held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for over five minutes of play. Roanoke closed the gap to a nine point, 65-56 deficit with three-and-a-half minutes to play. However, Livermon halted the run with another three-pointer, her seventh of the game. Roanoke would only score five more points off free throws during the contest, while Sarah Parsons closed out the game for Randolph-Macon with four made free throws of her own. Roanoke took the contest to the Yellow Jackets, but in the end fell 74-61 in the ODAC contest.

Hannah Livermon and Sarah Parsons tied for a team-high 21 points. Livermon was 7-15 from the field and 7-13 from the three point line. She tallied six rebounds with one assist, one steal and one block. Parsons was 7-14 from the field on the afternoon, including three from behind the arc. Katie Anderson put together a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets were 44.3 percent from the field, as compared to Roanoke's 39.2 percent. Randolph-Macon hit 48.1 percent of their shots from behind the arc, knocking down 13 during the contest (seven in the first half, six in the second half). Roanoke outrebounded Randolph-Macon 38-34, while the two teams tied in turnovers (16-16), and points in the paint (18-18).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 14th as they travel to Guilford College to play in an ODAC contest. That match is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
