Women Cruise to 84-47 Win Against Hollins on Wednesday
ROANOKE - The Roanoke College women's basketball team cruised to a 84-47 victory over Hollins on Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Maroons now have a record of 8-16, 4-11 in the ODAC, while Hollins is now 3-21, 1-14 in the ODAC.

The Maroons win on Wednesday puts them in a tie for 10th place in the conference entering the final game of the regular season against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. The Royals received 19 votes in the most recent d3hoops.com top-25 poll, making them the second team out of the list. The Royals have secured the #1 seed in the ODAC Tournament, while the Maroons will be on the road for the opening round game on Tuesday, February 24th. If the Maroons win in the opening round, they will play on Friday, February 27th at the Salem Civic Center in the ODAC Quarterfinals.

Cary Beahm led the Maroons on Wednesday night, posting a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. It was a career high rebounding night for Beahm with her 13 boards, as her previous high was 12 on two different occasions this season. This was also the fourth double-double this season for the Sophomore, with her most recent being on February 14th against Randolph College. Beahm has scored 420 points through the 2014-15 season, which ranks 14th in all-time single season points. She also currently has the 6th best single season scoring average in school history, putting up 17.5 points per game.

Meghan Gadell finished the game with 15 points, the second highest point total for the Maroons. She also tallied four assists and three rebounds. Jamella Foster also finished in double-figures, posting 10 points off of 4-6 shooting. Taylor Carter and Hannah Ward tied for second on the squad in rebounds with eight apiece, while Ward also led the team in assists with six. Bridget Holleran led the Maroons with four steals.

Roanoke jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first seven minutes of the first half, with five different Maroons scoring in that period of time. Cary Beahm put up four of the team's first 12 points of the night, while four other players scored two each. Hollins' Parfitt knocked down a three pointer to stop the scoring by the Maroons, but Roanoke fiwhile red back with a 16-0 run that ran through the 7:00 mark of the first half. During the run, Bridget Holleran scored seven of the Maroons' 16 points. In the final seven minutes of the half, Roanoke outscored Hollins 13-12, with Beahm, Wiley and Foster combining for 11 of the Maroons last 13 points of the half. The Maroons entered the locker room with a 21-point, 41-20 lead at halftime.

Roanoke picked up where it left off in the first half, starting the second period on a 16-3 run. Hannah Ward and Meghan Gadell combined for 10 of the Maroons 16 points during the run, as Gadell tacked on six points in the opening minutes. At the 10 minute mark, Roanoke held a 65-31 lead, when Kanisha Wiley hit a jumper that would start a four point run for Wiley. Gadell followed suit with five unanswered points over the next 30 seconds, capping her run with a three pointer. With eight minutes to play, Roanoke's lead was double Hollins' score, 72-36. Roanoke went scoreless from the field for the next three minutes, but Allison Yeaw stopped the drought by hitting a jumper that would spur a 6-0 run for the Maroons, with baskets by Wagner and Foster. Roanoke held on to their large lead over the final minutes, picking up the 84-47 win over Hollins on Wednesday night.

Hollins was led by Britney Campbell, who tallied 11 points on the evening. Giselle Verville also put up double-digit scoring with 10 points. Jewellana Parfitt finished with a team high eight rebounds, while Taylor Catron topped the squad with three assists.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 21st as they travel to Eastern Mennonite for the first game in a Roanoke/EMU doubleheader. The women's game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM tip, while the men will follow at 3:30 PM.
