Women's Fall for First Time This Season, 73-58 to Ferrum
FERRUM - The Roanoke College women's basketball team's season opening win streak has come to an end after a 73-58 loss to Ferrum College on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons now have a record of 4-1, while the Panthers move to 2-2 on the season.

For the fourth game so far this season, Cary Beahm led the team in scoring, tallying 18 points in the effort. She shot 5-8 from the field, as well as an 8-10 mark at the free throw line. Bridget Holleran, Markia Beckwith and Meghan Gadell each finished the afternoon with seven points each. Beahm also led the team in rebounds with six, while Holleran tallied five. Holleran, Gadell and Tatum McKee topped the squad with two assists, with Holleran also leading in steals with two.

The two teams went back and forth in the opening minutes of the contest, with Roanoke and Ferrum tied 9-9 after the first four minutes. Roanoke took the lead at 14:28 in the first as Gadell hit a three-pointer to put the Maroons ahead by one, 12-11. However, the Panthers hit back to back three-pointers to reclaim the lead and go ahead by five, 17-12 in the next minute. Ferrum continued to put the pressure on the Maroons as Roanoke trailed by 11 with 5:56 remaining in the first. In the final five minutes, the Maroons scored seven points, with four coming off of Beahm free throws. The Maroons entered the locker room at half trailing by 11, 37-26.

Roanoke scored the first four points of the second half, with Kelsey Smith hitting a layup to start the scoring. Markia Beckwith's layup at 17:16 brought the Maroons back within seven, 37-30. Over the next four minutes Ferrum outscored Roanoke 9-5, while Gadell and Noreen Mulledy hit shots for the Maroons. Roanoke closed the defecit to 10 points after Gadell hit a layup at 8:05, as the Maroons trailed 57-47. Roanoke was held to just four baskets in the final eight mintues, with Holleran and Beahm each scoring four points apiece. After the final horn had sounded, Ferrum picked up the 73-58 win over the Maroons.

The Panthers were led by Jacole Hairston, who finished with 22 points, which included a 7-17 clip, plus four three pointers. Krista Cox also finished in double figures, netting 14 points off 4-9 shooting, with all attempts coming from behind the arc. Kemani Crawford led the team in rebounds with nine, while Hairston topped the team in assists with five. Zarkia Mattox led the team in steals with five.

Ferrum narrowly outshot Roanoke in the contest, as the Panthers hit 40.7 percent of their shots to the Maroons' 38.9 percent. Ferrum also led in rebounds (38-35) and assists (14-8).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, December 3rd as they play host to Lynchburg College in Roanoke's home opener. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
