Women Fall in Non-Conference Game to Sewanee on Sunday
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell in non-conference action to The University of the South, 60-55 on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons now have an overall record of 4-3, while the Tigers are 5-1 on the season.

Cary Beahm led the Maroons in scoring with 17 points, hitting seven field goals on the afternoon. She also tallied a team-high tying eight rebounds. Beahm dished out two assist and had both of Roanoke's blocks for the day. Meghan Gadell tallied 12 points, on 5-8 shooting from the field. Gadell also had eight rebounds, while sitting second on the team in assists with four. Bridget Holleran was the third Maroon in double-figures, scoring 10 points. Holleran tallied a team high assists as well.

It took three minutes before either team would score in the first half, but Meghan Gadell got the ball rolling with a layup at 16:59 to give the Maroons the early advantage. Beahm followed with a layup to push the lead to four points. Sewanee responded with back to back three-pointers to take their first lead of the contest. The teams traded the lead once again, but at 11:43, Jamie Chauvin hit the Tigers' third three-pointer to go ahead 9-7 with 11:43 to play. The Maroons would pull within one at 9:24, 11-10, but Sewanee proceeded to go on a 23-8 run through the remainder of the first half, entering the locker room as Roanoke trailed 34-18.

Roanoke battled back in the second half, scoring eight unanswered points in the period. Gadell started the scoring for the Maroons with back to back layups, while Beahm and Hannah Ward added two more apiece. At 16:15 in the second half, Roanoke trailed by eight, 34-26. Roanoke hovered between the 8-10 point deficit mark through most of the second half. Gadell and Noreen Mulledy hit back to back three pointers to keep Roanoke within nine, 51-42. With 3:09 to play, Roanoke still trailed by nine points, but Gadell and Holleran combined for five points, including a Holleran trey, to get the Maroons within four, 55-51 with 2:44 on the clock. Roanoke would get as close as three points when Holleran hit another layup with 37 seconds to play, but Sewanee hit free throws down the stretch to seal the game, as Roanoke falls in non-conference action 60-55 on Sunday.

Sewanee also had three players in double figures on the afternoon. Jamie Chauvin finished with 15 points, shooting 5-10 from the field. She tallied four rebounds, two assists and a team-high three steals. Kelley Meyers was right behind Chauvin with 14 points on 4-9 shooting. Rebekah Faulkner went perfect for the day, hitting 3-3 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line for 10 points. Kayla Sewell led all players in rebounds, pulling down 14 over the course of the game.

Roanoke had a better shooting percentage from the field, shooting 35.5 percent to Sewanee's 31.6 percent. The difference was made at the free throw line, with the Tigers going 80.0 percent (16-20), while the Maroons hit 47.1 percent from the stripe (8-17). Roanoke led with the rebound advantage (45-41) as well as assists (17-11).

The Maroons return to action on December 19th as they travel to Daytona Beach to play in the Daytona Beach Shootout. They will take on Marymount University at 12:00 PM. They will play again on December 20th against Oneonta at 10:00 AM.
