Women Take Loss To Oneonta in Daytona Beach Shootout
DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Roanoke College women's basketball team lost in a Saturday morning contest to SUNY-Oneonta, 56-39 in the 2014 Daytona Beach Shootout. The Maroons close out 2014 with a record of 4-5, while the Red Dragons are 6-3 on the season with the win.

Cary Beahm led the Maroons in scoring with 11 points, shooting 4-8 from the field with a 3-4 mark from the free throw line. She also tallied two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Markia Beckwith, who was the leading scorer for the Maroons in Friday's contest, put together nine points and eight rebounds, topping the squad in the latter category. She also finished with three steals and four assists. Allison Yeaw and Bridget Holleran each put up six points on Saturday.

The Maroons had a tough time finding the basket in the first half, shooting 6-24 in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Beahm scored the first five points for the Maroons, the fifth coming from a free throw with 11:02 to play, as the Maroons trailed 18-5 at that point in the contest. Ellen Wagner hit back to back jumpers to score Roanoke's seventh and ninth points, respectively. Oneonta's largest lead of the game came at 6:46 in the first half, taking a 29-7 lead after a Cara Adams three pointer. Roanoke cut into the Red Dragons' lead as Allison Yeaw hit back to back three-pointers, bringing the Maroons back within 14, 29-15 with 3:30 to play. Those would prove to be the final points of the first half, as Roanoke trailed at the half.

Beahm scored the first two points of the second half, cutting the deficit to 12 points in the opening minute of the period. However, the Red Dragons hit seven consecutive points in the first three minutes of the game to lead again by 19, 36-17. A few minutes later, Meghan Gadell snapped the drought for the Maroons, knocking down a three pointer to get back within 15 points. After Gadell's trey and a jumper by Beahm, Beckwith scored all of Roanoke's points through the 5:39 mark, pulling within 13 points, 43-30. In the final four minutes, Holleran hit three jumpers, outscoring Oneonta, 6-4 over the first two of four minutes. With 1:48 left, Beckwith hit Roanoke's final basket, a three-pointer, making the team's 39th point. Oneonta would hit one more jumper from Kaitlyn Ponesse as the Red Dragons picked up the 56-39 victory in Daytona Beach.

The Red Dragons were led in scoring by Caysea Cohen, who finished with 13 points. Oneonta tallied 52 rebounds on the morning, led by Lyteshia Price and Bryn Loomis, who pulled down eight boards apiece. Sarah Longto finished with seven rebounds. Oneonta St. outshot the Maroons 33.3 to 28.6 percent from the field, as well as at the free throw line, 72.2 to 58.3 percent.

The Maroons return to action in the new year on January 3rd as the Maroons take on Goucher College on Saturday, January 3rd in the Bast Center. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
