The Lead: Roanoke scored the first eight points of the overtime as the Maroons vaulted past Emory & Henry 62-54 on Wednesday evening in Salem.

How it Happened
  • Roanoke was led by Cary Beahm with 23 points and seven rebounds. Bridget Holleran had 14 and Ellen Wagner had 10 to join Beahm in double figures.
  • Emory & Henry was led by Taylor Blevins who had 15 points and 18 rebounds in the loss. Anna Green scored a team-high 18 points.
  • RC came out strong, getting a Lauryn Taylor bucket that made it 22-13 with two minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • The Maroons took a 24-15 lead into the second period, but were only able to make one field goal in the period as the Wasps were able to cut its deficit to two points at 28-26 at the intermission.
  • Roanoke maintained the lead throughout the second-half but were unable to open up any margin bigger than five points.
  • A three-pointer by Blevins and a basket by Tamara Brewster gave E&H a 46-43 lead with 2:39 to go.
  • RC came back getting a free-throws from Holleran with under a minute to go and pair of free-throws from Wagner with just four seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
  • Anna Carter scored the first basket of overtime to give RC the lead for good then back-to-back buckets from Holleran and a pair of free-throws from Cater to cap the decisive run.
