The Lead: Anais Weatherly scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping Guilford pull away late from Roanoke as the Quakers scored a 70-62 ODAC Women's Basketball win over the Maroons on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened
  • The Maroons were led by Bridget Holleran who had 17 points to go along with three steals and four assists. Kelsey Smith had 14 points for RC while Cary Beahm had 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Jamella Foster came off the bench to score eight points and dish out four assists.
  • Weatherly who also had seven steals, was joined in double-figures by Laruen Ramsey who had 17 points and Heaven Walters with 11
  • GC made 26-of-57 shots from the floor, while Roanoke shot 44.4%, making 24-of-54 attempts from the field.
  • Guilford jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a three-pointer by Weatherly with 6:15 to play in the first period. The Maroons then reeled off eight straight points, taking an 8-7 edge on a Beahm bucket with just under five minutes to go.
  • RC would go on a 10-5 run to take an 18-13 lead on a Foster jumper with 2:14 to go before GC responded with an 8-2 run of its own to take a 21-20 lead after the first period.
  • The Maroons scored the first six points of the second stanza, pushing ahead 26-21 on a Holleran jumper.
  • The Quakers scored eight of the next 10 points to retake the lead at 29-28 on a Weatherly jumper with just under five minutes to go in the half.
  • The teams would trade baskets with Guilford holding a 35-34 edge at the break.
  • The third quarter featured four lead changes and three ties and an Essence Abraham jumper sent Guilford to the final quarter up 50-48.
  • The Quakers put together a 14-6 run to open up the fourth quarter and was open to widen its lead to 11 on a Ramsey basket that made it 68-57 with 3:45 to play in the game.
