The Lead: Bridget Holleran had 12 points, 11 rebounds and six assists as the Roanoke College Women's Basketball team scored a 60-58 non-conference win at Meredith on Thursday evening.

How it Happened
  • The first quarter was back and forth with Meredith holding a slim 14-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • With the score 23-19 in favor of Meredith in the second quarter, Jamella Foster sparked what proved to be a 16-2 run to close the half which was capped by a Foster bucket as time expired, sending RC to the intermission up 35-25.
  • Meredith chipped away in the third quarter as the Avenging Angels scored 16 of the first 22 points of the second half, cutting its deficit to 41-38 with just under five minutes remaining.
  • The Maroons were able to bump their lead back to seven when Ellen Wagner knocked down a jumper to make it 45-38 with 2:34 left on the clock, but Meredith scored the final four points of the quarter to make it 45-42.
  • With the game tied at 56-56, back-to back buckets by Holleran and Foster gave RC a 60-56 lead with 2:20 to go in the game.
  • Meredith would cut the Maroon lead to 60-58 with 1:36 left but the Maroon defense held down the stretch, forcing four missed shots by Meredith in the final 1:10 to preserve the victory.
  • The Maroons were led by Foster who scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Wagner had 12 points. Cary Beahm eight points to go along with eight rebounds.
  • Roanoke held Meredith to 29.2% shooting on the night and caused 20 turnovers that led to 21 Maroon points. The Avenging Angels were able to stay in the game by out rebounding RC 53-44, including 21 offensive rebounds. Meredith also knocked 10 three-pointers in the loss.
  • Jessi Hayes led four Meredith players in double-figures with 14 points, while Gabi Jessup and Raven Gregory each had 12.
