The Lead: Washington and Lee used a big third quarter to break open what was a tie at the half as the Generals topped Roanoke 73-63 Saturday afternoon in the final game at Roanoke College's C. Homer Bast Center.
How it Happened:
  • The Maroons were led by Bridget Holleran who had 16 points to go along with four assists. Cary Beahm scored 11, while Anna Carter, Elllen Wagner and Jamella Foster each scored eight points in the loss.
  • Washington and Lee got a game-high 19 points from Jackie Clifford. Ailyn Kelly had 12, while Paige Corvino finished with 11. W&L out rebounded RC 37-26 as the Generals had six players with four or more rebounds.
  • W&L held a 12-6 lead in the first period before the Maroons scored the last four points to trail 12-10 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
  • With the Generals up 16-15, RC reeled off seven unanswered points, taking a 22-16 lead on a Carter bucket with 2:50 to go in the half.
  • Washington and Lee closed the half on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 23-23 at the intermission.
  • With the score tied at 30 with six minutes to go in the third quarter, the Generals finished the quarter on a 20-6 run to take a 50-36
  • RC rallied, cutting the W&L lead to seven after a pair of Beahm free-throws made the score 60-53, but scored the next five points to put the game out of reach.
