  • Six Maroons Honored for Academic Success
    July 14, 2022
    The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced their 2022 Academic All State teams on Thursday morning. Six Maroons were honored for not only their athletic accomplishments, but for their academic success. Four of the six carry a 4.00 Grade Point Average (GPA), while the others sport a 3.974 and 3.966 gpa.
  • Maroons Fall In Tournament Opener

    Roanoke College opened the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday night when they took on defending champion Lynchburg. The Maroons had defeated the Hornets twice during the regular season and looked to make it three in a row in their tournament opener. The first half would see six lead changes and four ties as the teams went into the break in a 26-26 deadlock. Lynchburg exploded out of the break with seven straight points and would build a 12-point, fourth quarter lead. Roanoke stormed back and cut it to two in the closing seconds but couldn’t complete the comeback and fell to the Hornets, 63-58.
  • Alquiza and Harrel Named All Conference

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced the 2022 Women's Basketball all conference teams on Wednesday afternoon. With the start of the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament just two days away, a pair of Maroons were honored for their work during the regular season. Renee Alquiza and Kristina Harrel were each named to the All ODAC teams after receiving the same honor one season ago.
  • Hopson Named ODAC Player of the Week

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced their final basketball Player of the Week awards for the 2021-22 season. Roanoke College senior guard Whitney Hopson was honored by the league as the Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
  • Last Second Victory for Roanoke

    The Maroons welcomed Randolph College to the Cregger Center on Saturday afternoon for their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) regular season finale. The WildCats would enjoy a lead throughout much of the game and led by six with four-minutes left to play. A steal and layup with just under 10-seconds to play would put the Maroons in front. Randolph hit one of two from the stripe and the game was tied with just seconds on the clock. Roanoke got the ball inside for a layup and foul with .3 seconds left to complete the comeback and win their 20th game of the season, 66-63.
  • Roanoke Knocks Off ODAC Leading Generals
    February 16, 2022
    After falling to Washington and Lee on February 7th, the Roanoke women traveled to Lexington for the rematch with the Generals. The Maroons trailed, 25-23, with 6:30 to play in the first half, however Roanoke would close the half on a 24-7 surge to seize control of the game. Washington and Lee would close the gap to five heading into the final quarter but Roanoke opened up a double-digit lead and pulled away down the stretch for the 84-66, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), win over the conference leading Generals.
  • Roanoke Wins On Late Rally

    Roanoke went searching for their second consecutive win, after defeating Lynchburg on Wednesday night, when they welcomed Eastern Mennonite to the Cregger Center. Roanoke took a three-point lead into the second quarter but a 9-0 run by the Royals would see the visitors in front, 37-30 at the half. Trailing by five in the final period, Roanoke raised their defensive effort and would hold the Royals to just two fourth quarter points as the Maroons used a 17-2 final frame to rally for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win, 62-52.
  • Big Third Quarter Propels Roanoke

    Wednesday night was the annual “Maroon Madness” in the Cregger Center as the Maroons would welcome the defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champs from Lynchburg to Salem. Roanoke won on the Hornets court, 69-58, back in December and looked to complete the season sweep in front of a big home crowd. The tightly contested first half would see Lynchburg take a 26-24 edge into the half. However, the third quarter belonged to the home team as Roanoke would explode for 32 points in the period and finish off the Hornets with a 67-50, ODAC, win.
  • Roanoke Falls In Battle For Top Spot

    Roanoke hosted Washington and Lee at the Cregger Center on Monday night with a share of first place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings on the line. The Generals used an 8-0 run to break open a tie game in the second quarter and took a 34-25 lead into the break. Roanoke would see their deficit grow to as many as 18 before a late rally made it a six-point game with 3:00 to play. The Generals hit their free throws and held on for the 72-58 win over the Maroons.
  • Maroons Complete Sweep of Marlins

    The Roanoke College women’s basketball team traveled to Virginia Beach looking to get back on track against the Marlins on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons took the court less than 24 hours after playing an overtime game at Randolph-Macon last night. Roanoke scored first and never trailed as they outscored Virginia Wesleyan 42-13 during the middle two quarters on their way to a 75-39, road, win.
  • Roanoke Falls In Overtime

    After falling for the first time this season in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday night, the Roanoke College women’s basketball team was back on the road for a late afternoon tilt at Randolph Macon on Friday. In a first half that would only see 43 total points, the Maroons would take a 22-21 edge into the break. Roanoke built a nine-point, second half, lead but the final seven minutes would see Randolph-Macon pull even and the game would head into overtime. Roanoke scored first but the Yellow Jackets would score 13 of the next 18 to put the game away and pick up the 70-63 win.
  • Late Hornet Surge Dooms Maroons

    The second of four straight road games for the Roanoke women would see a trip to Winchester to face Shenandoah on Wednesday night. The Maroons defeated the Hornets in Salem by double-digits back in December. Both teams would struggle to score in a first half that would end with Shenandoah taking a 25-19 advantage into the locker room. Roanoke rallied to tie the game with just over two-minutes left to play and took a three-point lead into the final minute. The Hornets would close the game by scoring the final six-points of the night as Shenandoah picked up the 57-54 win.
  • Roanoke Earns 10th Conference Win

    Monday night would see another make-up game for the Roanoke women’s basketball team as they traveled to face Randolph College. In the matchup of top four Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) teams, the Maroons held a 34-26 lead at the break. Randolph would get to within four but a late run in the third pushed the Roanoke lead into double-digits. The Maroons would pull away in the fourth quarter for their 10th ODAC win of the season.
  • Maroons Rally On Alumni Day
    January 29, 2022
    Saturday was Roanoke College Women’s Basketball Alumni Day at the Cregger Center when the Maroons hosted Bridgewater. The alums in attendance, honored at halftime, were treated to a close Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) affair. The Eagles enjoyed a double-digit lead at the break and held that lead until a late Roanoke rally would see the Maroons come back for the 59-56 win.
  • Maroons Make Free Throws To Preserve Win

    Roanoke College played their second consecutive road game when they traveled to Ferrum on Wednesday night. It was the first time that the Maroons faced the Panthers since the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament semifinals. A big second quarter for the Maroons and the lead grew to 21 at the break. After an even third period, Ferrum pulled to within four points with one-minute left to play. Roanoke made their free throws to pull away in the closing seconds for a 73-65 ODAC win.
  • Easy Road Win For Roanoke

    Roanoke College traveled to Bridgewater for a rescheduled game on Monday night. With the change in the original schedule, the Maroons will face the Eagles twice in the next six days. Roanoke scored the first 10 points of the night on their way to building a 30-17 edge at the break. The second half would see the Maroons push their advantage to 30 before closing out their hosts with a 70-48, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.
  • Roanoke Remains Perfect

    The Roanoke women went searching for their second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the week as the hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins came into the game winless in ODAC play while the Maroons brought a, perfect 5-0, mark into the contest. Roanoke jumped on their guests by netting the first five points of the game, however, as the frame ended, the Marlins had not allowed the Maroons to get away, 20-16. Roanoke began to pull away in the second quarter and built as much as a 35-point lead in the second half as they picked up the 82-52 ODAC win.
  • Roanoke Pulls Away Late

    The Roanoke College women’s basketball team hadn’t taken the court since an 84-41 win over Hood back on January 2nd when they played host to Guilford College on Wednesday night. The game with the Quakers kicked of a four week stretch that sees 14 Old Dominion Athletic Conference games on the schedule. Guilford enjoyed an early, eight-point, edge before Roanoke rallied to tie the game at 14-14. The Maroons held their guests scoreless for almost seven-minutes and took a 28-23 lead into the break. The game would remain close into the fourth quarter, 43-40, before Roanoke exploded down the stretch to pull away for the 20-point win, 64-44.

    The Roanoke College women’s basketball team ushered in 2022 with a visit from Hood College on Sunday afternoon. The game with the Blazers is a makeup of a previously postponed contest from mid-November. The Maroons used a 22-0 run in the opening quarter to seize control as they cruised to the non-conference victory, 84-41.

    After suffering their first defeat of the season on Wednesday, the Roanoke College women’s basketball team looked to get back on track on the final day of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. The Maroons would face a stiff test as they welcomed the #6 Captains of Christopher Newport to the Cregger Center. Roanoke enjoyed a seven-point advantage late in the first quarter. However, CNU would storm back and use relentless pressure throughout the game to pull away for the easy win, 101-70.
  • Third Quarter Dooms Roanoke

    18 days after besting Lynchburg in a rematch of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Basketball Championship game Roanoke hosted Elizabethtown in the opening game of the 2021 Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. The Maroons enjoyed a late advantage in the first half, but an 11-2 closing run would give the Blue Jays the lead at the break. The closing stages of the third would see a 15-0 Elizabethtown run put the game away. Roanoke was able to outscore the Blue Jays in the fourth but it wasn't enough as RC suffered her first loss of the season, 78-63.

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon and Roanoke College senior Renee Alquiza was named ODAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
  • ODAC Rematch Goes To Roanoke

    On Saturday afternoon Roanoke traveled to Lynchburg to face the Hornets in a rematch of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Basketball Championship. After falling to 67-61 last spring, the Maroons looked to exact a bit of revenge and keep their ODAC record without a loss. Roanoke took a 7-3 lead early but a Hornet rally put Lynchburg in front. The Maroons erased a four-point deficit and went into the break with a 34-26 edge. The second half would see RC build a 16-point advantage on their way to picking up the 69-58, ODAC, win.
  • Harrel Eclipses 1,000 Point Mark in Win Over Hornets

    The Roanoke College women’s basketball team welcomed Shenandoah to the Cregger Center. The Hornets made the trip on the opening weekend to compete in the 2021 Jean Beamer Classic and returned to face the Maroons, for the first of two times this season, on Wednesday night. Roanoke scored the first seven points on their way to building a 16-point, first half, lead. Shenandoah finished the half on a 7-0 run to make it 37-28 at the break. The Maroons would see their lead grow to as many as 23 before the Hornets started to mount a comeback. With five minutes remaining on the clock, Shenandoah had cut their deficit to just five points, 68-63. Roanoke would not let their guests get any closer as the Maroons held on for the 80-69 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

    After opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday night, the Roanoke women’s basketball team traveled to Eastern Mennonite for a Saturday afternoon tip. The Maroons used a 12-5 first quarter to take control of the game. An 11-point halftime lead would grow during the third quarter as Roanoke went on the road and came home with the 70-56, ODAC, victory.
  • Maroons Move To 5-0
    December 01, 2021
    The undefeated Roanoke College Women’s basketball team took the court on Wednesday night to start Old Dominion athletic Conference (ODAC) play against a Hollins team that came in 1-0 in the conference. With 2:40 left in the first, Hollins enjoyed a 17-15 advantage. However, the Maroons used a 20-8 surge to end the first quarter and start the second to seize control of the matchup. Roanoke would continue to stretch the lead throughout the remainder of the game for their first ODAC win of the season, 78-55.
