The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced their final basketball Player of the Week awards for the 2021-22 season. Roanoke College senior guard Whitney Hopson was honored by the league as the Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
This past week, the Maroons wrapped up the regular season with a pair of ODAC games. In a win over conference leading Washington and Lee, Hopson recorded a career night when she poured in 28 points, matching her collegiate high. The point guard was 8-12 from the field, 3-4 from the three-point line and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Hopson added seven rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals. On Senior Day against Randolph, Whitney helped spark a Roanoke rally that would see the Maroons come from behind in the final minute to secure the win. She was 5-10 from the field on her way to 10 points and six rebounds. But it was her four steals and her game-winning assist with .3 seconds to play that allowed the Maroons to finish the season on a four-game win streak heading into the 2022 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament as the #3 seed.
