Roanoke defeats Guilford, 10-6 in ODAC Action

GREENSBORO, NC --- Brooks Laufman led the Maroons with three goals and one assist to lead Roanoke past Guilford, 10-6 on Friday afternoon. The win improved the women to 5-3, 2-0 in ODAC play. The loss dropped the Quakers to 3-5, 0-2 in the ODAC.
Roanoke, who are now 27-0 all-time against Guilford, have scored at least 10 or more goals against the Quakers in all but one time in the series.
Shelly Nogueira gave the Quakers an early 1-0 lead before the Maroons scored five unanswered goals over the next eight minutes to go up 5-1 with 12:59 remaining in the first half and never looked back.
Hannah Merrell scored the next two goals for Guilford to cut the Maroon lead to within two, 5-3. Paige Mason answered with a goal just before the end of the half to go up 6-3.
After Meeghan Rourke's goal made the score, 7-3 just two minutes in the second half, Guilford scored two more goals to cut it back to two, 7-5 with just under 20 minutes left to play. Gina Valles and Laufman scored to put the game away for good and pick up the Maroons' second ODAC win of the season.
Valles and Mason netted two goals each to lead the Maroons while Rourke added a goal and an assist in the win. Carolyn Miller and Sunni Ray both chipped in a goal while Ella Wade and Elizabeth Hartge had an assist.
Mason's season-best eight draw controls led the Maroons while Valles' seven groundballs top all other players. Carolyn Clark added two caused turnovers. Katlyn Scarlett had eight saves in goal for Roanoke.
The women will turnaround tomorrow and host #2 Salisbury in the confines of Kerr Stadium in non-conference action. The Sea Gulls are currently 7-0 on the season and coming off a 12-9 win over #1 Hamilton this week. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
