#2 Salisbury Runs Away With Win over Roanoke, 23-13

SALEM, Va. --- #2 Salisbury left Kerr Stadium with a 23-13 win over Roanoke in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The win kept the Sea Gulls undefeated with a 9-0 record. The Maroons dropped to 5-4 on the season.
The Maroons, who are now 3-2 against the Sea Gulls all-time, have lost the last two meetings with the other coming in 2006 (16-6). It has been the fourth time this season the Maroons have played against top-20 opponents (1-3) with their only win coming against Mary Washington, 14-9.
Salisbury scored the first five goals of the contest as the Sea Gulls shot at point-blank range to take control early in the first half. They pushed the lead to six, 9-3 with 9:18 remaining in the first half.
Roanoke scored back-to-back goals nearing the end of the first half as Gina Valles and Sunni Ray took advantage of two man-up opportunities. They went into the half with a six-goal deficit, 12-6.
Both teams traded goals back-and-forth over the first five minutes of the second half. Paige Mason found Brooks Laufman in a man-down situation that closed the gap to four, 14-10 with 25:12 left in the contest.
The Maroons couldn't get closer as Kim Cudmore scored three-straight goals on a 4-0 scoring run to make it, 20-11 with 15:47 left to play.
The 13 goals by Roanoke were the most scored on the Sea Gulls all season. Valles and Laufmanled the offense with four goals each. Mason shared the wealth with a team-high three assists and added a goal in the loss. Ray and Carolyn Miller added two goals apiece while Ella Wade had an assists for Roanoke.
Laufman moved up to 22nd on the career scoring list (117) with four goals while Valles' six points (4g, 2a) tied her on that list. Mason's four points (1g, 3a) moved her only three points shy of becoming the 28th member of the 100-point club, the third player this season.
Salisbury was led by Kim Cudmore with six goals and four assists to lead all players. Logan Bilderback had four goals and a team-best four assists while Beth Rhodey finished with four goals and two assists. Robyn Bishop added three goals.
Katyln Scarlett finished with six saves in goal for the Maroons while Sonja Stuart had eight for the Sea Gulls. On a positive note, Scarlett became only the third goalie at Roanoke to eclipse over 600 saves for his career (608).
The women travel to Ashland, Va. to take on Randolph-Macon this Wednesday, March 25 in ODAC action. The Maroons are 27-15-1 against the Yellow Jackets, but R-MC has won five of the last six meetings. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
