#20 Roanoke Cruise past Sweet Briar, 17-3 in ODAC Action

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke scored the first nine goals of the game and cruised past Sweet Briar, 17-3 in ODAC action at Kerr Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in the ODAC. The Vixens dropped to 3-6, 0-4 in conference play this season.
Roanoke dominated the contest with a 35-12 shots advantage and collecting 40 groundballs to the Vixens' 16 for the afternoon. The Maroons are now 30-6 all-time in the series and have won 25 of the last 26 meetings.
The Maroons, ranked #20 in the this week's IWLCA Top-20 poll, have now equaled last season's win total at 10 games with three regular season games to go. The 6-0 ODAC mark keeps the women atop the ODAC standings and the six conference wins are the most since going 8-0 during the 1999 season.
Gina Valles led Roanoke with three goals, three assists, nine groundballs, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers. Sunni Ray and Carolyn Miller each netted three goals apiece for the Maroons while Miller added seven groundballs in the win. Mary Kate Cummings added two goals, two assists and three groundballs.
Paige Mason had a goal and two assists to pace the Maroons with Emily Armstrong added a season-best two assists and Alyssa Greer's two goals, which is also a season-high. Elizabeth Narwicz scored a career-best two goals and Ella Wade sharing the wealth with two assists in the victory.
Valles nine points on the weekend now moves her into 13th on the all-time scoring list (141 pts), four shy of 12th. She is also one goal shy of tying for 10th in career goals at Roanoke while her 237 career shots moved her three spots to eight all-time. Her 82 career won draw controls puts her in a four-way tie for fifth all-time and her 39 career caused turnovers puts her seventh in that category.
Mason's six points now puts her two points shy of moving into 24th on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke. Her 82 career won draw controls is tied with Valles for fifth all-time.
Sweet Briar was led by Stewart Hulfish, scoring all three goals. Ashley Salzman added the only assist. Laura Wolf finished with 11 saves in goal for the Vixens.
The women will host Bridgewater this Thursday, April 9 at Kerr Stadium in ODAC action. The Maroons are 27-3-1 in the series against the Eagles, winning the last 24-straight. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
