Roanoke Women's Lacrosse Game Notes ? ODAC Tournament

The women's lacrosse team will host the ODAC Semifinals and Finals at Kerr Stadium this weekend, April 25-26. Game times for the semifinals are at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday with the championship held on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Series Information vs. Virginia Wesleyan
The Maroons are 12-4 all-time against the Marlins since 1998. The Maroons won the first eight meetings and then dropped the next four from 2004-06. Since then they have won the last four meetings by a combined 18 points, including an 11-10 overtime win on April 4.

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke provided some late heroics to get past Virginia Wesleyan in an 11-10 overtime win at Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are now 9-4 and remain undefeated in ODAC play with a 5-0 mark. The Marlins dropped to 6-6, 3-2 in the ODAC.
Roanoke won the groundball battle, 63-30 and held a 32-19 shots advantage. The Marlins were five-of-seven in free-position shots, which was half of their scoring for the game.
Down 10-9 with six minutes to play, Paige Mason provided the game-tying goal to send the game into overtime as she went passed her defender and found the back of the net with just over a minute left in regulation.
In the overtime period, Carolyn Miller scored halfway through the period to provide the game-winner. Gina Valles footwork outran the defenders as time expired and the Maroons won their fifth ODAC game of the season.
Valles led Roanoke with three goals, 10 groundballs, five caused turnovers and three draw controls. Sunni Ray also had three goals with four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Mason finished with two goals, an assist and seven groundballs to pace the Maroons.
Defensively, Alida Haslett had five draw controls and five groundballs while Cristen Sanfilippo collected eight groundballs for the Maroons. Katlyn Scarlett had nine saves in goal for the Maroons.
Aimee Sraver finished with five goals to lead VWC while Bethany Adomanis added three goals. Ashley Sippel had 15 saves in goal for the Marlins.
Last Time Out (vs. Hollins, 25-3 W)
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated Hollins, 25-3 in the final game of the regular season Friday afternoon. With the win the Maroons now enter the post-season with a 13-4 mark and a perfect 8-0 ODAC record. Hollins dropped to 1-9 on the season, 0-7 in the conference.
Roanoke dominated the contest, out shooting Hollins, 39-3, a 30-8 advantage on groundballs and caused 22 turnovers, led by Paige Mason, Alida Haslett and Gina Valles with three each.
Mason had a career-high eight points with three goals and five assists, another career-best in the win. She has moved up to 22nd on the career scoring list at Roanoke. In addition, Mason is ninth in career assists with 48.
Alysa Greer led Roanoke with a career-high four goals while Valles added three goals and two assists. She is now 11th on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke with 159 points. She is also ranked seventh in career goals (125), fifth in career caused turnovers (47) and fifth in single-season goals with 61.
Carolyn Miller and Meegan Rourke had three goals apiece and Maddy Gerald chipped in two goals and two assist for a career-high four points in the win.
ODAC Tournament History
Roanoke has claimed nine ODAC Championships in addition to seven ODAC Runner-Up finishes in the ODAC since 1983. From 1986-99, the Maroons were in the championship game every year except the 1992 season. Since 2000, the women have advanced to the championship only three times (2003, 07, 08) all ending as the runner-up to Washington & Lee. They hold a 41-16 record in the ODAC Tournament.

Gina Valles is re-writing the Roanoke College women's lacrosse record books. For her career, she is ranked 11th in career points (159), seventh in goals (125), eighth in shots (266), fourth in draw controls (93) and fifth in caused turnovers (47). She is among the single-season top-10 in five categories.
Paige Mason is ranked 22nd on the career scoring list (126 pts) in addition to ninth in career assists (48), fifth in draw controls (92) and third in caused turnovers (53). Her 25 assists and 39 draw controls this season puts her 10th and eighth in those categories, respectively.
Brooks Laufman's 129 career points ranks her 19th on the all-time scoring list while her 274 shots are seventh all-time. Goalie Katlyn Scarlett's 654 career saves rank her third all-time at Roanoke.
Roanoke Remains in #20 Spot for Fourth-Straight Week; Third in South Atlantic Regional Rankings
The IWLCA ranked Roanoke women's lacrosse #20 for the fourth-straight week announced this afternoon. The Maroons have been ranked or have received votes in the poll all season. In addition, the women are ranked third in the latest NCAA Div. III South Atlantic Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday. They are 3-4 against teams ranked in their respective regional polls.
