Roanoke Remains Unbeaten in ODAC with win over Bridgewater, 17-1

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke coasted to a 17-1 win over visiting Bridgewater Thursday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons are now 11-4, 7-0 in the ODAC while the Eagles drop to 6-8, 1-5 in conference play.
With the win, the Maroons now hold a 28-3-1 all-time advantage against the Eagles, winning the last 25-straight. The 17 goals and the 16-goal win margin were both the most in the series since 2004.
Roanoke, ranked #20 in the IWLCA Div. III top-20 poll for the second-straight week, dominated the contest, with a commanding 54-9 shot advantage, including 34-3 in the first half and 39-5 shots on goal. The women also won the groundballs battle, 22-11 and forced 23 Eagles turnovers. In addition, the Maroons were successful in 10-of-15 clear attempts and won 14-of-22 draw controls.
Gina Valles led Roanoke with nine points which included five goals, a season-best four assists along with five draw controls. Carolyn Miller added four goals and one assist while Paige Mason had two goals and three assists.
Cristen Sanfilippo led Roanoke with four groundballs along with two caused turnovers. Mary Kate Cummings had a career-high three caused turnovers to lead the Maroons in addition to a goal and two groundballs. Katlyn Scarlett picked up her 11th win of the season with three saves and two groundballs
Mary Robinson scored the only goal for Bridgewater thanks to Erin Cartwright's assist with 3:21 left in the game. Colleen Schwind finished with 21 saves in goal for the Eagles.
The women will host in-state non-conference rival Christopher Newport Saturday at Kerr Stadium in a big south region showdown. The Captains are currently 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the USA-South. The Maroons are 4-1 against CNU and will look to avenge the 15-14 overtime loss held at Captians field last season. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
