Gina Valles Named ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Junior Midfielder Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster )was named ODAC Player of the Week for women's lacrosse. It was the first Maroon to garner the weekly honor, including the sixth time in her career which is more than any other player in program-history.
Valles, scored 10 goals and dished out nine assists in two ODAC wins last week. She had an unofficial school-record 11 points with a career-high seven goals along with four assists in a 16-5 win over Randolph-Macon last Tuesday. Against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, she tallied three goals and dished out a career-high five assists in a 12-10 win over the Marlins.
For the season, Valles leads both her team and the ODAC with 52 goals, 30 assists, 82 points and 89 shots. In the NCAA Rankings, she is ranked 21st in scoring, 22nd in goals per game and among the top-20 in assists per game.
She has etched her way into the Roanoke College record books. Valles is currently eight points shy of third all-time in scoring (259 points), 11 goals from second all-time in career goals (191), four shots away from second with 385 and her 68 assists are tied for fifth on that list. Her 126 draw controls are one behind teammate Paige Mason (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, Orangeville)for second all-time.
Roanoke currently 7-5 overall, 5-1 in the ODAC, which is second in the conference standings. The Maroons are winners of four-straight heading into their final week of the season. Four of the five losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the IWLCA Top-20 poll.
The women will travel to Bridgewater in their final road game of the regular season in ODAC action. Game time is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
