Gina Valles Named ODAC Player of the Week for the Second Week in a Row
Junior Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster )was named ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon. It is the second-straight week that the midfielder has earned the award, including the seventh time in her career.
Valles, a junior from South Windsor, Conn., picks up her second straight ODAC weekly award. Valles scored 12 goals and had 18 assists for 30 points in three games last week. She was one helper shy of tying the ODAC and NCAA assists record with 10 against Hollins. The ODAC-leading scorer had 10 points (6g, 4a) against Bridgewater the following day. She finished the week with three goals and four assists against Guilford in the regular season home finale.
For the season, Valles leads both her team and the ODAC with 61 goals, 38 assists, 99 points and 107 shots, including 80 on goal. She also leads her team in groundballs (40) while second in both draw controls (28) and caused turnovers with 27. In the NCAA Rankings, she is ranked ninth in scoring, 11th in goals and among the top-30 in assists per game.
Roanoke is currently 9-5 overall, 7-1 in the ODAC. The Maroons are riding a five-game win-streak and clinched a #2 seed in next week's ODAC Tournament. Four of the five losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the IWLCA Top-20 poll.
The Maroons travel to Newport News to play against Christopher Newport in their regular season finale. Roanoke is 5-1 against its in-state foe, with the last two meetings decided by a single goal. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
