Valles Repeats as ODAC Women's Lax Player of the Year
SALEM, Va. --- Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster )secured her second-straight ODAC Player of the Year award as part of the 2010 ODAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Team. Lynchburg College head coach Bruce Reid earned the league's top coaching award, and Virginia Wesleyan College's Nikki Salyers was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year. The General's Emmy Mathews was selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete through a vote of the conference's sports information directors.
Alida Haslett (Bryn Mawr, PA, Radnor)joined Valles on the first-team, while Carolyn Clark (Baltimore, MD, Towson), Paige Mason (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, Orangeville), Meegan Rourke (Greenwich, CT, Millbrook School)and Cristen Sanfilippo (Sparks, MD, Hereford)earned second-team honors. Roanoke finished 9-7, 7-1 in ODAC play to finish second in the conference standings. The Maroons fell to Lynchburg, 12-11 in the conference semifinals.

Valles, a junior midfielder, makes her third appearance on the All-ODAC First Team while also taking home her third-straight major individual honor that includes the 2008 rookie of the year award. Valles led the ODAC in all three scoring categories with 109 total points from 67 goals and 42 assists. She is currently ranked fifth in the nation in overall points and points per game (6.81), 13th in assists per game (2.63), 14th in goals scored and 15th in total assists. In 16 games played this season, Valles recorded no fewer than three points each time out. She registered double digit points three times in victories over Randolph-Macon College (11), Hollins University (13) and Bridgewater College (10). She registered highs of seven goals scored on two separate occasions, once against R-MC and the other in a win over St. John Fisher.

Haslett, a senior defender, earned her second first-team all-conference selection of the 2009-10 school year as a defender on the women's soccer team. She leaves the program as the all-time leader in caused turnovers (90) and has three All-ODAC plaques. A team captain over the past two seasons, Haslett started in all 16 games, totaling 21 groundballs, 21 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers as she anchored the defensive unit. This is her second-straight year as a first-team selection, also earning two All-ODAC Tournament team honors.
Clark, a senior defender, took home her second-straight all-conference honor. A team captain this year, she started in 15 of 16 games played, compiling 22 groundballs, seven draw controls and forced 16 turnovers. For her career, Clark missed only two starts in 61 games while her 61 caused turnovers rank sixth on the all-time list at Roanoke.
Mason, a senior midfielder, earned All-ODAC honors for the second-straight season. An Academic All-ODAC selection over the past three years, she finished the 2010 season with 27 goals and 18 assists for 45 points. She totaled 67 shots, 55 on goal for a .821 percentage in addition to 32 groundballs, 38 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. For her career, Mason, a team captain, finished ninth on the all-time scoring list (177pts), 15th in goals (106), tied-fifth in assists (71), third in draw controls (134) and fifth in caused turnovers (68).

Rourke, a junior midfielder, garnered her first all-conference honor. A talented defender, she tied a school-record in caused turnovers with 46, ranked among the top-10 in Div. III. She tallied 26 goals and 10 assists for 46 points. Rourke had 61 shots, 49 on goal for a .803 SOG percentage in addition to 37 groundballs and 23 draw controls.
Sanfilippo, a senior midfielder, earned All-ODAC honors for the second-straight season. She totaled six goals and nine assists for 15 points, collected 25 groundballs, won 34 draw controls and caused 15 turnovers. For her career, Sanfilippo started 61 of 70 games while finishing fourth in career draw controls (111), and eighth in caused turnovers (47).
