Gina Valles Repeats as IWLCA All-American
The IWLCA has honored 48 student-athletes on the 2010 All-American Team announced Wednesday afternoon. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa. Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster )represented Roanoke with a spot on the first-team.
Valles, a two-sport star at Roanoke, garnered her second-straight IWLCA All-American honor in her illustrious career. A four-year starter on the women's soccer team, Valles was named second-team All-American by womenslacrosse.com. She became the program's first player to be named first-team All-American since 1999.
A junior midfielder, Valles also became an IWLCA First-Team Chesapeake Region All-American for the second-straight year. She broke her own single-season scoring record with 109 points and just four assists shy of tying the single-season assists record with 78. The three-time All-ODAC performer is re-writing the career record books at Roanoke. Entering next season, Valles needs only 17 points to break the all-time scoring record, second all-time in goals (204) and shots (411), third in assists (78), free-position goals (40) and caused turnovers (80). She holds the school-record in shots on goal (308) and draw controls (139).
The three-time ODAC All-Tournament Team selection took home her third-straight major ODAC honor that includes the 2008 rookie of the year and back-to-back player of the year awards. She led the ODAC in all three scoring categories with 109 total points from 67 goals and 42 assists.
She is ranked fifth in the nation in points per game (6.81), 11th in assists per game (2.63) and 17th in goals scored. In 16 games, Valles recorded no fewer than three points each time out. She registered double digit points three times in victories over Randolph-Macon (11), Hollins (13) and Bridgewater (10). The single-season record-holder in points, Valles registered highs of seven goals scored on two separate occasions, once against R-MC and the other in a win over St. John Fisher.
The Maroons finished 9-7 and was second in the ODAC with a 7-1 mark. Below is a complete list of the 2010 IWLCA Div. III All-American Team.
