Wade and Mason Named IWLCA All-Academic Squad
The IWLCA has 407 student-athletes recognized from 152 institutions on the 2008-09 All-Academic squad. Among those were graduate Ella Wade and rising senior Paige Mason from Roanoke College. Included in the list of honorees are the IWLCA Scholar-Athletes of the Year: Anna Ford from Elizabethtown College, Julie Kraus from Southern New Hampshire University, and Kristin Schwab from Princeton University.
Wade, from Lexington, Va. graduated from Roanoke this past spring with a bachelor's degree in Religion. The Rockbridge Co. product remained in the starting lineup on a consistent basis over her career, with 73 starts in 75 games played. She has totaled has totaled 51 goals and 35 assists for 86 career points. She has also collected 76 career groundballs along with 22 caused turnovers and 22 draw controls over her career. Wade helped lead the Maroons to four-straight 10-plus winning seasons, including two NCAA Tournament appearances and an ODAC Championship this past spring.
Mason, a midfielder from Orangeville, Ontario, has been named to the ODAC All-Academic team in each of her three seasons at Roanoke. She was named to the IWLCA Chesapeake Regional All-America Team for the first time in her career last season. As a junior, Mason was a First-Team All-ODAC selection at attack, while earning All-ODAC Tournament honors for the second-straight year.. An Education major at Roanoke, she was named All-ODAC Second-Team in 2008. She finished the year ranked second in the ODAC in assists with 32 and is currently ranked ninth in career assists at Roanoke (55), 17th on the career scoring list (136 pts). Mason was second on the team in goals (35), points (67), shots (92), shots on goal (76) and draw controls with 42.
All student-athletes were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of at least 3.5 or were in the top 10 percent of their squad.
