Women's Lax places Seven on All-ODAC Team

SALEM, Va. --- The women's lacrosse team ended the season with seven players earning All-ODAC honors. Gina Valles, who was named first-team, also earned the ODAC Rookie of the Year to highlight the Maroons' postseason conference honors.
Along with Valles, sophomore defender Alida Haslett also earned first-team honors for the first time in her career. Katlyn Scarlett, Paige Mason and Carolyn Clark each garnered second-team honors while Amanda Hutchins was an honorable mention pick.
Valles, a sophomore from South Windsor, Connecticut, sat at or near the top in several conference-wide statistical categories all season including goals per game (1st), points per game (2nd) and shots per game (2nd). This season, Valles had 54 goals and 13 assists for the Maroons and was named ODAC Player of the Week twice. She broke the school-record at Roanoke for points and goals in a season. She led the team in free-position shots made and percentage and was second in assists.
Haslett led the team in groundballs this season (48) and caused turnovers (19). She was named to the All-ODAC Tournament team. The Bryn Mawr, PA native started in every game this season and has been a full-time starter over the last two seasons with the Maroons. She collected a career-best seven groundballs vs. #1 Salisbury and had had three groundballs, two draw controls and three caused turnovers vs. #6 W&L in ODAC Championship.
Scarlett was named to the All-ODAC team for the third time in her career. After a rough start of the season and playing not 100%, she bounced back to have a great second half of the season, averaging over 10 saves per game. She is ranked nationally in saves (19th), save percentage (40th) and goals against average (39th). After battling the first part of the year with an illness, she had 91 saves and allowed 68 goals in the final nine games of the season. She had a career-best 20 saves vs. Guilford, which broke her previous career-best of 19 vs. #2 Gettysburg earlier this spring.
Mason, an international player from Canada, had a solid sophomore campaign. She was named to the ODAC All-Tournament team after leading the Maroons with two goals and one assist in the ODAC Championship game vs. #6 W&L. The midfielder was third on team in scoring (46), fourth in goals (28) and led the Maroons in assists (18). She was also third in draw controls (33) and caused turnovers (14). She had nine multi-goal games this season.
Clark, a sophomore defender, started in all 18 games this season. She collected 29 groundballs and caused 10 turnovers. The Baltimore native had season-highs of six groundballs and two caused turnovers against Sweet Briar (3/26). In addition, she had four groundballs and two caused turnovers vs. Mary Washington (3/6).
Hutchins, a senior attack from Guilford, Conn. was a four-year starter for the Maroons during her career. She finished her career in the top-10 in goals and made the 100-point club at Roanoke. She started in every game this season and was named to her third all-conference team.
The Maroons finished 10-8 on the year and 6-2 in the ODAC. They advanced to their second-straight ODAC Championship, falling to W&L who won their sixth-straight conference title. It was the 17th ODAC Championship appearance for Roanoke. They finished the season winning six of their final eight games, falling only to #6 W&L in the ODAC title game and to USA-South Conference Champion Christopher Newport in overtime.
