Women's Lacrosse Downed by Elizabethtown, 15-11
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- Eight different players recorded goals to give Elizabethtown a 15-11 victory and hand the Maroons (3-1) their first loss of the year. The Blue Jays, who received votes in the IWLCA National Poll, improve to 2-2 on the young season.
Katie Scheurich picked up her third career hat trick to lead the balanced attack for EC. Sarah Cullinan dished out two assists and scored twice while Kara Solesky, Becky Porter, Bari Rosenstein and Samantha Redles netted two goals each.
Gina Valles, who recently moved into second on the ODAC career scoring list (313pts), scored five goals to lead the Maroons' offense. Her team-best eight groundballs moved her into seventh on the career groundballs list at Roanoke (195) while she broke the career caused turnovers mark with 93 for her storied career. She enters next week only seven assists shy of breaking the school's career assists record. Valles is currently sixth on the ODAC's all-time assists list with 92. Her two free position goals moved her into a tie for second with 42 on the career list.
Meegan Rourke also totaled eight groundballs while leading Roanoke with five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Allison Bonanno finished with two goals and an assist while Kathleen Wager had a goal and collected six groundballs. Emily Knade tallied a goal and a team-high two assists as Melissa Madalon collected four groundballs.
The Maroons return home on Sunday, March 13 to start a four-game home stand against defending national champion and top-ranked Salisbury. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
