Women's Lacrosse Hands Guilford a 22-8 Loss in ODAC Action
GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Roanoke outscored Guilford, 15-4 in the first half and never looked back in a 22-8 victory Saturday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 2-8, 1-2 in conference play.
The Maroons, now 29-0 against the Quakers, held advantages in shots (41-23), groundballs (16-5) while 9-for-11 in clear attempts and 4-of-5 in free-position shots.
The women scored the first nine goals of the game and never trailed as they cruised to their first win since March 20 against Christopher Newport. Rourke scored four goals over that span. The Maroons have lost five of their last six outings entering today's game.
Meegan Rourke (Greenwich, CT, Millbrook School) led all scorers with seven goals and an assist for eight points. She added four groundballs, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster ) contributed two goals, two assists, two groundballs and two draw controls.
Jamie Golden (Timonium, MD, Notre Dame), Kathleen Wager (Lexington, VA, Rockbridge County)and Carolyn Miller (Clinton, MD, St. Mary's Ryken) scored three goals each to pace the Maroons. Lyndsey Jones (Easton, MD, St. Peter and Paul) (3-3) earned the win in goal for RC, collecting two saves. Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) had a season-best six saves in the second half between the pipes.
Guilford was led by Sarah Bradford with three goals. Kaitlyn Feeney added two goals while E'Leyna Garcia had a goal and two assists. Liza Mettler had 12 saves in goal for the Quakers.
The women return to action tomorrow in Ashland, VA to take on Randolph-Macon College in conference action. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
