Roanoke Routs Bridgewater, 26-8 in Women's Lacrosse Action
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first half and went on to win, 26-8 in women's lacrosse action at Kerr Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 8-7 overall, 5-2 in the ODAC. The Eagles slipped to 6-10, 3-6 in conference play.
Roanoke, third currently in the ODAC standings, out-shot Bridgewater, 60-14, including 45-14 advantage in shots on goal. The Maroons won 23-of-36 draw controls and collected 50 groundballs on the afternoon.
Meegan Rourke (Greenwich, CT, Millbrook School) posted career-highs of eight goals and 10 points, which included two assists. She also won five draw controls and collected a career-high eight groundballs. Elizabeth Hartge (Easton, MD, Easton) came up with five groundballs, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Jamie Golden (Timonium, MD, Notre Dame) scored six goals and dished out two assists for eight points, along with six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Carolyn Miller (Clinton, MD, St. Mary's Ryken) totaled five points which included four assists and five groundballs. Emily Knade (Easton, MD, St. Peter and Paul) finished with two goals and two assists with four draw controls.
Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster ) scored three goals to become the school's all-time leader in that category, in addition to one assist, a career-high 10 groundballs. She added six draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Lyndsey Jones (Easton, MD, St. Peter and Paul) (5-5) earned the win in goal for the Maroons, while Laura Zdziarski (Gainesville, FL, Buchholz) came up with three saves in relief. Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) came up with a save of her own late in the second half.
Caitlin Boles totaled 19 saves in goal for Bridgewater while Caitlin Costello scored three goals and Taylor Chamberlain added two goals and an assist.
The women return to action on Friday, April 22 as they host Virginia Wesleyan on Senior Night. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
