Stevenson overcomes slow start to down Roanoke
OWINGS MILL, Md. --- Stevenson overcame a poor start to defeat Roanoke, 18-5 in non-conference action Friday afternoon. The Maroons slip to 1-3 while the #19 Mustangs improve to 3-1 in their first home game at Mustang Stadium.

Roanoke were off to a great start, scoring the first four of five goals of the contest. Allison Bonanno opened the scoring for the Maroons as she tied the score at 1-1 with 27:23 in the first half.

That goal sparked three more unanswered goals as Kathleen Wager scored twice, including one from Rosie Knisley to make it 3-1 four-minutes later. Knisley scored her only goal of the game two minutes later after a forced turnover off a clear from the Stevenson goalie to make it 4-1 with 21:26 remaining in the half.

Stevenson scored four unanswered goals of its own to give them a 5-4 lead midway through the first half. Wager scored her third goal of the game to complete her hat trick performance to tie the score at 5-all 30-seconds later.

From that point on, it was all Stevenson as they closed the game on a 13-0 run. 11 of those goals were scored in the second stanza as the Maroons were held to only two shots in the final 30-minutes of play.

The Mustangs out-shot the Maroons, 46-14, including 22-2 in the second half. Stevenson won the groundball battle, 25-15 (15-6 in second half) and held a 16-9 edge in draw controls, 7-1 advantage in the second half.

Lauren Curtin had 13 saves for Roanoke, 10 in the second half. Jenny Schroeder totaled six saves for the Mustangs.

The women will return home on Tuesday, March 13 as they host Fitchburg St. (MA) in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
