SALEM - The Roanoke Women's Lacrosse team was victorious in their home opener against Fitchburg State on Tuesday, 17-10. The Maroons move to 2-3 on the season, while the the Falcons open their season 0-1.

Roanoke opened up the first half on a 4-0 run, seeing goals from Morgan Conroy, Elizabeth Narwicz and two from Darragh Evarts. With 14 minutes to play in the first half, and over the next four minutes, Fitchburg scored three goals off free positions shots. The free position goals from Jessica Bartlett, Kristen Dooley and Amanda Burns brought the Falcons within 1, 4-3 with 10:29 to play in the first stanza.

Roanoke responded with a run of their own, scoring three goals before the end of the first half. Kathleen Wager scored her first two goals of the game in that period, which put the Maroons up 8-3 at halftime.

During the second half, Roanoke and Fitchburg State combined for 17 goals, including six more from Wager that extended her tally to eight on the night. Fitchburg pulled back within five on a few occasions, their last being a goal from Lindsay White with 11:11 to play in the contest. Roanoke rattled off four more goals after that, two each from Wager and Allison Bonanno to extend the lead to nine.

The Falcons finished the contest scoring two goals, but would not be enough as the Maroons were victorious, 17-10.

Wager led the Maroons with eight goals to go with three assists for 11 points. She took 16 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Bonanno finished the contest with four goals and four assists. Evarts led roanoke with six ground balls in the contest.

Fitchburg State's Amanda Burns led the team with five goals off 12 shots. Kristen Dooley and Carissa Kennedy led the Falcons with five groundballs each.

Roanoke returns to action as they play host to Wittenberg University on Sunday, March 18th. That contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
