Women's Lacrosse Escapes Bridgewater with 10-9 Win
HARRISONBURG --- Freshman Darragh Evarts scored with just over seven-minutes left for the eventual game-winner to escape Bridgewater with a 10-9 victory Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improve to 9-5 overall, 6-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Eagles record drops to 5-8, 3-5 in the conference.

Her goal came off an assist from Megan Conroy with 7:26 remaining as the Maroons held on for their fifth-straight victory this season. Evarts finished with two goals, five groundballs, two draw controls and a team-best five caused turnovers to lead the Maroons.

After the Eagles scored first to take the early lead, the Maroons reeled off four unanswered goals over the next 14-minutes of action to take a three-goal advantage. Allison Bonanno scored the first two goals and assisted the third to Jamie Golden while Kathleen Wager scored on a free-position shot during that span.

Bridgewater responded with three-straight goals to tie the contest at 4-all with 10:27 left in the first half. Taylor Chamberlain scored two of the three goals and assisted on the other to lead the Eagles back in the game. Evarts scored with 6:25 to go before halftime to give RC the lead heading into the locker room.

The Eagles stormed out the gate, scoring the first four goals to take their largest lead of the contest, 8-5 with less than 10-minutes elapsed in the second stanza. Katie Freeman led BC with two of the four unanswered goals and an assist to start the half.

Over the ensuing eight minutes of play, Roanoke rallied back to regain the lead, 9-8 thanks to four goals over that span. They were led by Wager, who scored a goal and assisted two more to tie the contest. Elizabeth Narwicz scored the go-ahead goal for the Maroons with 12:12 remaining.

Megan Bach scored to tie the score at 9-all before Evarts came through for RC with the game-winner.

Though Roanoke held a slight edge in the shots column, 24-23, they had 21 shots on goal to the Eagles who finished with 10. The Maroons held a 28-16 groundballs advantage, including 13-4 in the second half, and forced 20 BC turnovers.

Bonanno led RC with three goals and an assist in addition to three groundballs and two caused turnovers. She is now tied for sixth all-time at Roanoke in career assists with 71. She needs only five more to move into fourth in that category. Wager totaled two goals, two assists, three groundballs and four caused turnovers. Her only draw control today moved her into sixth on the all-time list at RC with 108, one in front of senior captain Elizabeth Hartge (107).

The women will play their final two regular season games on the road this weekend, April 21-22 against Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport on respective days. The Maroons will host the ODAC Quarterfinals on Saturday April 28 at Kerr Stadium.
