Roanoke drops Regular Season Finale to #22 Christopher Newport
NEWPORT NEWS --- The women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 14-6 loss to #22 Christopher Newport Sunday afternoon. The Maroons head into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a 10-6 record.

This is the third time in program history that the Captains defeated the Maroons, who are now 3-6 against Roanoke. CNU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight time after winning the USA-South Conference Tournament Championship last weekend.

CNU scored four-straight to start the game with goals, led by Ashton Marshall, who finished with five goals for the Captains.

The Maroons answered with four unanswered goals of their own to tie the game with 8:27 remaining in the half. Darragh Evarts scored two of the four goals over this span in addition to ODAC-leading scorer Allison Bonanno, who had to retire early due to an injury. With 94 points this season, Bonanno has the fifth-highest single-season scoring total in program-history.

Play went back and forth as Roanoke had several opportunities to take the lead until CNU scored three in the last three minutes of the half to take a 7-4 lead at the break. Roanoke outshot CNU, 18-13 in the first half.

The momentum continued for CNU as they scored two more goals in the first two minutes of the second half to extend their lead to five as Laura Zdziarski relieved Lauren Curtin in goal for the Maroons. Roanoke snuck in a goal at the 27-minute mark before the Captains added three more for a 12-5 lead with 17:35 remaining. Zdziarski did well in goal for RC, coming up with six saves in the second half.

The Maroons scored their final goal of the game at 9:10 off a free position shot from Kathleen Wager. Marshall put two more in for the Captains as time was winding down for a 14-6 final score.

Captains' goalie Hannah Wilkerson had a solid performance with 14 saves. Curtin took the loss for the Maroons in goal, collecting one save.

Wager finished with three goals and eight groundballs while Elizabeth Hartge totaled five groundballs and three draw controls.

The women will earn the #2 seed in the ODAC Tournament and will host the semifinal round on Wednesday, May 2 against the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan-Lynchburg game at Kerr Stadium.
