Gina Valles Earns a Tryout with the US Women's Lacrosse Team during Memorial Day Weekend
STONY BROOK, NY - Former women's lacrosse assistant coach and three-time IWLCA All-American Gina Valles ‘11 earned a tryout for the 2012 U.S. women's national team. The tryout roster was narrowed down after the first round of tryouts held Memorial Day weekend in Stony Brook, N.Y., in conjunction with the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament.

The final round of tryouts is being held at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in Catonsville, Md., July 29-31. Seventy-eight former and current college players from 30 schools made the cut for this weekend's final evaluation.

The players were evaluated over the three-day tryout in drill and scrimmage sessions. The final roster will be announced after the conclusion of the tryout, July 31. Valles was named assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program during the 2012 season, helping Mary Schwartz guide the Maroons to the ODAC Championship game. Valles, a three-time IWLCA All-American for the Maroons women's lacrosse program, racked up her fourth-straight First-Team All-ODAC plaque last spring as she put up the seventh-highest single-season scoring total in NCAA Div. In her final collegiate season, Valles ranked among the national-leaders in scoring (2nd), assists (8th), caused turnovers (10th), groundballs (7th) and goals (9th).

As a sophomore, Valles led the Maroons to a 16-5 record and an undefeated 8-0 mark in ODAC play. They won the ODAC Championship in 2009 for the first time in 10 years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

A 2011 graduate of Roanoke with a bachelor's degree in exercise science, Valles was a two-sport athlete as a two-time All-ODAC selection for the women's soccer program.
