Maroons Win in Triple Overtime Thriller Against Washington and Lee
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team opened ODAC play with a 13-12 triple-overtime victory over Washington and Lee on Wednesday night. The Maroons now have a record of 1-3, 1-0 in ODAC play, while the Generals are now 2-5, 2-1

This is the first time Roanoke has defeated Washington and Lee since the ODAC Championship game on May 6, 2009. The Maroons won that game 11-9 in Salem.

The Maroons opened up the first half with three big goals to get a jump on the Generals. In the first six minutes, Darragh Evarts, Kathleen Wager and Allison Bonanno found the back of the net to give Roanoke a 3-0 lead. Washington and Lee responded with four goals of their own, including two from Meade Brewster. With 19:10 to play in the half, Washington and Lee had taken a 4-3 advantage.

The two teams traded goals over the remainder of the first half, with the Maroons netting the final goal of the period. Kathleen Wager netted the unassisted goal with 1:01 to play in the half, tying the two teams at the end of the period, 7-7.

Roanoke scored quickly in the second half, taking a two goal, 9-7 lead, after goals from Wager and Evarts. Washington and Lee's Katie Hagen scored two consecutive goals to tie the game at 9-9. With 22:00 on the clock, Jamie Golden scored to give Roanoke a 10-9 lead. The Generals' scored two goals over the next eight minutes, to gain a one goal advantage. With 13:36 to play, Bonanno tallied her third goal to tie the game at 11-11. Roanoke's Morgan Conroy scored the go ahead goal with 8:11 to play. However, Washington and Lee's Margaret Klein found the back of the net with 6:00 on the clock, tying the game at 12-12, eventually sending the game into overtime.

After two overtime periods, the teams entered sudden-victory play. In the 3rd overtime period, after Lauren Curtin saved a free position shot, Cathleen Wager placed one between the pipes to give Roanoke the 13-12 victory.

Kathleen Wager led the Maroons with four goals, followed by Allison Bonanno with three goals. Rosie Knisley, Wager and Bonannon each had an assist on the evening. Lauren Curtin played all 60 minutes in goal, making 13 saves on 25 shots faced.

Margaret Pascale and Meade Brewster each led the Generals with three goals, while Margaret Klein and Katie Hagen had two each. Cara Mulligan made 8 saves in goal on 21 shots faced.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, March 15th as they take on Drew University in Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 4:30 PM start.
