Bonanno Sets Record in Women's Lacrosse Win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday
ASHLAND - Junior Alison Bonanno set an NCAA, ODAC and Roanoke single-game record for assists in the Roanoke College women's lacrosse 21-11 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons now have a record of 5-5; 4-1 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets are 8-2; 3-2 in ODAC play.

According to the most recently published NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse record book, Allison Bonanno set a DIII record for most assists in a game, dishing out 12 in today's contest. There were seven different players who had 11 assists in a game, the most recent happening in 2011. She also broke the ODAC single game record for assists, dishing out 12 during the contest. The record was previously held by Megan DiCave of Virginia Wesleyan, who had tallied 11 assists in a game back in 2000. Bonanno captured the Roanoke single game assist record as well, originally 10 held by Gina Vales, set on April 12, 2010.

Daragh Evarts started the scoring for the Maroons, netting the first goal of the game just three minutes in. The first goal also marked Bonanno's first assist of the contest. Randolph-Macon's Shannon Jamieson scored two consecutive goals to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead after the first six minutes.

The Maroons went on to outscore Randolph-Macon 5-2 through the next 10 minutes, with five different maroons scoring, along with three more Bonanno assists. Over the final 15 minutes of the game, the Marons went on a 6-1 run, with Evarts and Bonanno scoring two goals each, along with Jamie Golden and Kathleen Wager finding the back of the net. Through the first half, Bonanno had seven assists, as Roanoke led 12-5.

Wager opened the second half as she had done the first, scoring the first goal of the period. Golden scored just two minutes later, to give Roanoke a 14-5 lead. Randolph-Macon went on to score three consecutive goals to pull back within six, 14-8. The Maroons and the Yellow Jackets traded two goals each as Evarts and Wager scored on Bonanno assists. The Maroons closed out the final 15 minutes, outscoring Randolph-Macon 5-1, with Evarts scoring two goals, along with Bonanno, Nicole Zelnik and Wager tallying a goal as well. Roanoke won the ODAC contest, 21-11

Darragh Evarts and Kathleen Wager both led the Maroons in scoring with six goals each. They were followed by Jamie Golden and Allison Bonanno with three goals each. Bonanno led all players with 12 assists, followed by Rosie Knisley with two. Lauren Curtin played all 60 minutes in goal and tallied 11 saves.

Emily Lynch was the top goal scorer for the Yellow Jackets, scoring four goals during the game. Betsy Hebert finished the game with three goals. Lynch also led the team in assists, dishing out two of the team's three. Nicole Woodworth played 45 minutes in goal and tallied nine saves, giving up 17 goals.

The Maroons led in draw controls (26-8), as well as shots (36-28). The Yellow Jackets held the advantage in ground balls (17-11) and clears (14-17).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd as they take on Sweet Briar College in Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 4:30 PM start.
