Bonanno Sets Season Assists Record During Roanoke's 19-4 win over Sweet Briar
SALEM – The Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team picked up another Old Dominion Athletic Conference win with a 19-4 victory over Sweet Briar on Wednesday.  The Maroons now have a record of 6-5; 5-1 ODAC while the Vixens are now 6-6; 0-5 in the ODAC.

With her nine assists in tonight’s contest, Allison Bonanno set a Roanoke College single-season record for assists with 53.  The record of 52 was originally set by Gina Valles during the 2011 season.  Bonanno is just two assists shy of breaking the Roanoke College career record in assists, also currently held by Valles (132).  Over the last two games, Bonanno has dished out 25 assists, including an ODAC and Roanoke single game record of 12 against Randolph-Macon on the road.

The Maroons opened the first half with eight consecutive goals.  Jamie Golden had three of Roanoke’s eight opening goals, while Kathleen Wager had two and Darragh Evarts had two.  Three of those goals were assisted by Allison Bonanno.  At the 21:12 mark, Sweet Briar’s Allison Hassard scored the Vixens’ first goal of the game, making the score 8-1.  Golden and Evarts scored one more goal each through the 16:18 mark, giving Roanoke a 10-1 lead.  After Sweet Briar’s Charlotte Davis scored on a free position shot, Roanoke ended the half with another four goals.  The half was capped off by two goals from Golden, and one each from Evarts and Rosie Knisley.  Through the first half, Bonanno had tallied seven assists.

Bonanno opened the second half with a goal of her own, giving Roanoke a 15-2 lead.  Sweet Briar found the back of the net again at the 25:05 mark as Kimberly Orchowski scored an unassisted goal.  Over the next nine minutes, Roanoke scored four more goals, as Wager, Knisley, Golden and Evarts netted one more each.  The Vixens scored one final goal in the last minute of the half, but Roanoke picked up the ODAC win, 19-4 over Sweet Briar.

Jamie Golden led the Maroons in scoring, netting seven goals during the contest.  She was followed in scoring by Darragh Evarts, who found the back of the net five times.  Allison Bonanno led all players in assists with nine, followed by Evarts and Wager with two each.  Lauren Curtin picked up the victory, playing 38 minutes, allowing three goals, and making five saves.

Four different players scored for Sweet Briar on the night.  Olivia Hurt had the lone assist for the Vixens.  Caroline Baker played all 60 minutes, allowing 19 goals and tallying 14 saves.

The Maroons led in many statistical categories including shots (38-15), ground balls (31-26), and draw controls (18-7).  The Vixens finished with 14 saves, and turnovers with 16.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 6th as they play host to #17 Christopher Newport University at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM.
