Maroons Fall in Non-Conference Action to #17 Christopher Newport
SALEM - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action to #17 ranked Christopher Newport University, 16-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons now have a record of 6-6, while the Captains are 14-1.

Allison Bonanno finished the game with just one assist. However, with that assist, Bonanno tied the Roanoke College career record for assists with 133. The career record is currently held by Gina Valles'. Bonanno also moves into third all-time in the ODAC in career assists. She is just five assists from moving into second all-time which is currently held by Leslie Bogart of Washington and Lee (2000-03).

The Captains started off the game netting four consecutive goals in the first eight minutes. Roanoke's first goal came at the 11:32 mark as Darragh Evarts found the back of the net. Over the next two minutes, the teams traded goals with Roanoke's goal coming from Kathleen Wager. The Captains answered with two more goals, giving CNU a 7-2 lead with 7:44 to play in the half. Allison Bonanno scored the Maroons final goal of the half, pulling Roanoke within four, 7-3 after 30 minutes.

Christopher Newport's Lauren King and Becca Geist scored the first two goals of the second half, giving the Captains a 9-3 lead. The Maroons got hot at the 28:02 mark as Rosie Knisley scored two goals in Roanoke's 3-0 run, with the other goal coming from Wager. The Captains answered with three more goals of their own, bringing the lead back to seven. With 10:12 to play, Evarts found the back of the net one more time, pulling the Maroons within five, 12-7. However, Christopher Newport finished the contest scoring four more goals, bringing the final score to 16-7, as Roanoke fell in the non-conference game.

Rosie Knisley, Kathleen Wager and Darragh Evarts each scored two goals for the Maroons on the afternoon. Ronaoke's other goal came from Allison Bonanno. Bonanno, Evarts and Wager also finished the game with one assist each. Lauren Curtin picked up the loss, playing 31:51 minutes in goal and tallying five saves.

The Captains' Becca Geist and Lauren King finished with a game-high four goals each. Rachel Tomlinson tallied two assists. Hannah Slough picked up the win between the pipes, playing all 60 minutes and tallying three saves.

Christopher Newport led the contest in ground balls (22-10), draw controls (14-11) and shots (35-12). The Maroons did hold the advantage in saves (9-3).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 10th as they travel to face Lynchburg in ODAC action. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
